The Storm Cloud & The Sun - A Children's Story

For Children - Story of a storm cloud and a sun.
For Children - Story of a storm cloud and a sun.

Once upon a time there was a big, gray, mean storm cloud. He lived above a little village up in some big mountains. Because he was so grumpy he always rained on the little village. Just like the storm cloud, the people in the little village were grumpy and mean.

Now the sun didn’t venture up to the mountains very much and when he did the mean, grumpy storm cloud always made such an awful fuss that he quickly went away. The people didn’t know what the sun was except for the brief occasions when it came up the mountain.

Then one day the sun decided to teach the mean, grumpy storm cloud a lesson. The grumpy storm cloud was so busy raining on the little village and feeling miserable the he didn’t see the sun sneak up behind him. The sun quickly sent his rays over the village and startled the storm cloud so much that he stopped raining. But not for long. Soon the storm cloud started raining again. Then the sun and storm cloud started fighting. The sun shone brightly sending his rays over the mountain village while the storm cloud rained and thundered and muttered.

The two were so busy fighting that they didn’t notice that down below the villagers had gathered in small groups to stare up at the sky. But they weren’t staring at the storm cloud. They weren’t staring at the sun. They were looking at the beautiful rainbow that had formed where the sunrays had met the rain.

The storm cloud looked down and saw the happy villagers. Then he made a decision. He would not be a mean grumpy storm cloud anymore. He would be a nice happy cheery cloud.

From that day on, the villagers were happy people. They were proud of their cloud. Wherever you looked you could see the cloud busily working away, shading people or pouring a light shower over someone’s garden. And every night the sun and the cloud both put on a wonderful sunset show for the happy little village.

I just loved it! But I have a question: Which age do you think this story would be?

I really like this story! Reading it out loud to kids is really fun! Hubs up and sharing. Perfect explanation for those inquisitive little minds. Plus, I love rainbows!

Thank you... actually re-reading this I do find it rather trite. I wrote it about five years ago and cannot even recall what my inspiration was.

First you immediately capture the reader with amusing and charming words, then drama ensues - and indeed it gets rather dramatic! - and finally it's all peace and harmony again. It is a lovely piece, and very well-written & presented.
