The Struggle- a poem
By Tony DeLorger © 2011
Walking in knowledge,
where ends begin,
and the veil of human suffering,
endows an open heart to understand,
is a painful journey of hope and conviction.
Inspired by a loving hand,
I can only abide by my opened eyes,
my knowing of the cruelty of the blind,
the self seduced to distant shores
and dark deeds made just.
So much I beg for blindness too,
to dream of sweet oblivion,
my eyes fixed on beauty
and truth as fanciful as my wishes.
But life wakens me each time,
my cloud dissipating
into the harsh clarity of life.
I cling to that hand,
that unconditional love,
for it holds my feet to earth,
reminds me of this gift and potential,
that so often is strewn on a muddied canvas.
All I can do is focus,
and tell myself that love will conquer hearts,
that in the end my eyes seek truth,
in a world where hopes are realised,
and hearts are freed,
in the loving arms of peace.
