The Taste Of Yesterday

It is hard to forget, I said, when there is such an empty space when you are gone."

I saw you today

I saw your face

I saw your hair

I saw your child

I saw your woman

I saw you today

I actually saw you today

I wonder if you saw me

I wanted you to see me today

I wanted you to see my face

I wanted you to see my hair

I wanted you to see my child

I wanted you to see my man

Did you see me today?

Did you actually see me today?

I wonder if you wanted to see me

You walked down that street

You walked down that street today

You walked down that street with her today

You walked down that street with me yesterday

Yesterday is gone

Yesterday is gone today

But yet today

Yesterday is not forgotten

I saw you today

You walked down that street

And for just one second

It all felt like yesterday

You saw me yesterday

You saw my face

You saw my hair

You looked deep into my eyes

And I looked deep into yours

But that was yesterday

And I still wonder:

Did you see me today?

The taste of yesterday is bittersweet

I enjoyed this poem. Because of the clever way that it is constructed, the reader is drawn into the story, making you want to read more. Voted up

Valleypoet, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have no idea how to write poetry. I just write - and maybe that's why it is called poetry. Thank you for voting!

The beauty of poetry is that it can mean different things to different people....this speaks of sweet melancholy to me.....well done Made!

I love the way you constucted this poem also, it is very well written and unique. I can imagine those feelings, of seeing someone you have loved, someone who know so well, intimately and seeing him in a whole new life. I can imagine the emotions and the 'what ifs' that would go through your mind. You evoke those feelings here. My votes and best wishes to you, oh and sharing!!!

This poem speaks to me, some of our greatest moments are stuck in yesterday.

....oh my goodness ...you just 'MADE' my morning here with first cup of coffee and some light classical music with this poetic beauty - I would die to have come up with that title - it is so heavenly - the taste of yesterday - I am sighing here - it is so Leonard Cohen and yet you are a 'star' in your own right - lake erie time canada 9:54am and sending you some good energy

epi, that title just showed up in my head. I never really had to think about it. I admit I like the title myself, but it's nothing compared to how clever you are. I admire how you come up with your incredible poems. They are like nothing else. Thank you again for a lovely comment. Have a nice day! :)

What a great poem of strength. No one has your own past better than how you see it. Love the idea even though it is a little sad but with so much future possibilities. Hope that describes you…gives my heart a little joy to contemplate, make some music with!!!

Ausseye, I'm glad you stopped by to read this poem. I haven't read it myself for a while and I wouldn't change anything if I wrote it again today. We all have a past, but life is filled with future possibilities. Thank you. :)
