The Tempest Within

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Who dares to wake the giant,

the beast that feeds on darkness,

and suckles at the breasts of demons.

Who crosses the line,

entreats the misery of pain and anguish,

to live within the light,

and spit flames of fury on the unsuspecting,

the innocents of circumstance.

Who speaks from me,

my tongue so bent and acid,

words unfamiliar rushing to blacken hearts,

and wound the minds of the contentious.

Like a turbulent flow of lava it rises,

from the depths of me,

toward the light of day,

spewing forth its retched bile,

and suffocating all with breath and life.

It brings the living to their knees,

their hearts stained and weak,

their bodies unresponsive.

Who dares to push,

to implore the temper of hidden rage,

and to unleash the remnants of a struggled life,

the doubts, fears and regrets of past,

held in temperance

until the switch is thrown.

I am but a vessel of my collective experience,

and what is hidden and not acknowledged,

still sparks, if given the chance.

Anger is a malignant force,

partly tethered, always listening,

waiting for a single step from darkness,

to swell into action.

I pray for serenity within,

to crush the path of rage,

and strike at the demon core that begs release.

I am but human.

Thanks raciniwa. Yes indeed we are all capable of such good and bad and we should all realise that potential as being human. The task in life to work on the positive and accept love as the only path to happiness.

Words are the most potent drugs ever created for it may heal or destroy a person...but hidden anger or rage may inflict more harm to a person...this poem reflects a part of every human...i am human...

Thanks ytsenoh. I guess we all have potential for anger and rage, but learning to keep it in check is important in life. Thanks for reading.

I voted this up because it represented very well the effects of anger or rage stirring. Personally, I can display the lack of patience and I am very patient, so it's constantly keeping it in check. I also place a lot of value on civility, so there's never really room for angst. I am, however, very much aware of what can bring it on. Thanks for this hub.
