The Travesty of Introspection

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

Turbulent thoughts invade serene moments,

as if to throw the world far from its axis,

and torment a mind seeking rest,

from its own relentless pursuits.

I often wander the vast planes of empty futures,

just to tempt the onslaught of turbulence,

to prove its pointed opportunistic behaviour,

and sure enough it complies with its own agenda.

The torment is born of fear, mine and mine alone,

yet it weaves itself into my life, thread by thread,

and when I seek my core, my internal reality,

it waits for me in the silence of my soul.

What possible reason is there, for this uncertainty,

this undermining force that seizes my balance,

and floods me with dark intent and the vastness of possibilities,

unwanted, unknown and ill-conceived.

In the shadows of my inner sanctum, there is a war,

an endless parody of good and evil, enacting,

and I at the mercy of myself, bare witness to its play,

all the time at the edge of my thinking, as life ensues.

I am human, no more, no less; an enigma of possibility,

contained in a vulnerable shell and seeking meaning,

and for all my striving I find that turmoil of duality,

and that imperfection that leads to struggle, and the pursuit of understanding.

Exploring the limits of mind and possibility is a dangerous pursuit, and can take you to the edge of reason and sanity.

It can take you to the edge of sanity...or insanity! Thought provoking work.
