The Volcano

The volcano shot red streamers

Of molten rock high into the sky,

Ashes looked like a snow flurry,

First indication of its fury,

Life around the volcano would dim,

As red lava came bubbling over the rim,

The lava separated into river streams,

And the hot air was filled

With wild-life screams,

The bubbles would beat,

Each one radiating a horrible heat,

And intensely eager to consume,

Everything crumbled,

In the distance the thunder rumbled,

And the clouds would fall,

But it wasn’t thunder after all,

It was the volcano preparing to heave

Another load of lava,

Showing its worth,

As the lava scorched

And tormented the earth,

The population fears,

As the sky flares,

That volcano hadn’t erupted

In nearly a thousand years.

Hi Frank;

I’ve never seen a volcano -- sleeping or awake. Your poem is so incredibly vivid and compelling, I’m glad I haven’t. Excellent work.

Reminds of the Montserrat volcano which I wrote about in one of my travel hubs. Your descriptions are so real. You're simply good!

Frank, interesting how you write of the volcano. I know I've said it a hundred times before, but you're such a talented writer, details show no bounds. U the man:) Voted up, awesome, beautiful, and shared on FB.
