The War Upon Darkness- Chaptire 5
So the Trackers found us and we took off. One of them looked at me. I looked back.
"Yah?" I angled myself so I could talk to him and fly.
"What did those beasts look like, if I may ask?"
"Uhh like grennish looking thingys with weird faces. They had wings, but they were also deformed and they couldn't fly very well." I looked away, trying to remember.
"Thank you, your Highness."
"Uh-huh." We gained speed quickly, trying to reach my kingdom before supper. We must have flown over a city because one of the Trackers almost fell out of the sky due to the pollution. Really, if only they didn't have machines. The only mechanisms that create pollution in my kingdom are automatons, and they are banned for it. Except They make them. Cause They don't care.
"We have arrived at the portal." A guard landed and spoke softly, as not to wake what lay beneath his feet. A good concern. Humans build right over top of them, not caring for anything. The portal glowed a bluish color and swirled slowly counterclockwise, the distinction between the portal to this earth. We stepped through and landed in the courtyard of my home.
"Kurai!" Papa rushed out to meet me and we embraced, missing each other terribly.
"Papa, this is Jesse Kurtis." I gestured to him. "He rescued me from the monsters that attacked us." Papa turned to Mr. Jesse.
"Thank you. I owe you greatly for saving my daughter." Papa bowed at the waist, a sign of deep respect that he rarely showed to anyone, except his Father.
"Uh, no problem, I guess." Mr. Jesse ran his hands through his hair. "Where am I, anyway?"
"You are in the Kingdom of Terra Ciele." Papa walked him to the edge of the courtyard balcony that overlooked most of the kingdom and waved his hand outward, showing Mr. Jesse the boundaries. My home is beautiful, untainted by other-worldly machines. My people need clean air in their lungs, and it's made us fit and fast. I prefer not to fly around those devoveo civitas. It's gross, and my lungs soon turn black.
"Whoa." Mr. Jesse's eyes widened. As if they had no idea of what beauty a natural world could hold! After seeing theirs, now I see why Papa and the Council banned machinery, so long ago. Papa turned to one of his servants.
"Prepare a feast. Tonight, we celebrate the return of my daughter by this yound man." He patted Mr. Jesse's shoulder. A thought hit me hard, sending a shudder through my body.
"Papa, what about Maia?" He stroked his beard in that calm way he always did when he was thinking.
"Let me consult the council. Until then, why don't you and Skye show this fit young Kurtis around the inner city?" He patted Mr. Jesse on the back.
