The Wretched Moonlight

It happened beneath the wretched moonlight,

As she held her breath,

Unconsciousness was not death,

But it was welcomed,

Time was slow,

And his voice was low,

Although unconsciousness

Could carry the fear away,

But nevertheless the violence would stay,

And only her shadow could pray,

The wretched moonlight

Was casting his shadow over her

Like a dark dreary coat,

His hands gripping

As it wrapped around her throat,

The violent act would seed,

As her fear played into his greed,

The air stale, but once fresh,

Had settled as he broke flesh,

The streetlight was straining,

And her emotions were draining,

As the violent act was staining,

The wretched moonlight took on solidity,

As if it restored some peace,

He rose and left her on the street,

Urine warmed her thighs,

And it trickled to her feet,

The air was now filled with cries,

And hope gave in to defeat,

It was a horrific night,

This took place

Beneath the wretched moonlight.

'And only her shadow could pray'...a great line, and overall the way you have used the moonlight to assist in the creation of this scene makes it a great piece. Quality work Frank, thanks buddy:-))

Evil draws sustenance from the fear it invokes in its victims. You've evoked what the victim gasping in the deadly thrall of wickedness under the moonlight must feel - and wickedly good at that my friend.

Voted up. Frank you and that moonlight took me back to those foggy streets of London and the old Hollywood movies when shadows creep out of the night. Loved this. Passing it on.

Your pen cast a dark shadows as "only her shadow could pray" amazing choice of words yes indeed for a shadow to be her only witness as she passes from life to death under the hands of another street killer under his guise of the moonlight. Life is so easy to pluck in numbers that walk the streets at night as these dark ravens await in the shadows for their prey. Voted Up awesome and shared.

Coming late to one of your parties is difficult...so many wonderful and true things are already said. Newspaper headlines and TV News reports ran through my brain as I read this masterpiece but I think Gypsy nailed it with her memories of those film noir!

Your pen runs ink and blood....piercing the brain and the heart. You are truly a superb writer.

Voted up, useful, awesome, beautiful, interesting, and shared!

..you are the most understated writer I know Frank and also one of my all time favorites too - you always get me excited about the dark stuff in which I love to write too - I will write one at work tonight especially for you - and your writing often reminds of Tom Waits - a big compliment indeed I would say. lake erie time 12:25pm

It is horrible and sad, but this happens behind the shadows reflected only by moonlight. Oh, the unfortunate soul!

Awesome poem!

An artistically creepy poem( I think i just created a new adverb for creepy!) It is really beautiful and eerily melodious too. It sure is a wretched moonlight!

Have a nice day ahead.
