The aniversary of a death ......

Through the eye's of family we learned
all the best things about brothers
We could look at each other and see
our ancestors in our faces
We could talk and smile about
and tragedies
and life

We could not see each other for months even
years and smile like it was
yesterday that we last did
You had the most amazing sense of humor
and I little
in our youth we ran
wild and pushed all the
I looked up to my big brother
you looked out for me

And now've been gone a whole
year and when I stop by the green fields
where you lay
I speak to you in pain clipped
sentences and listen for
your answer
The one you so looked up to
the lord said "Vengeance is mine "
didn't he

But if I had my way .......
if I had my way
You died laying there in the road
yet you live on
into the eternities
of brotherhoods
You are my light
I love you Jerry

This is so good, Ed. That part about being apart from family and old, old friends - for various durations; and yet, when together again, it's been as if no time had passed at all. This is probably one of my favorites of all you poetry. It's incredibly dear and real. Hugs and thank you for the tender, gentle reminder of losses of all three of my own siblings over the years, from 1953 till May, 2012.

This lovely, tender poem touched my heart. The embers continue to burn deep within, year after year as my own grieving goes on. I miss him so, I miss my son. Love you Ed ~ Audrey

Very beautiful and moving. Our loved ones are everything and there is a huge space left when we lose them. I like to think my own loved ones are still close by.

A very timely poem. I share your feeling of such loss: today is the anniversary of the passing of my dear husband and while it may have been eight years, I still miss him. I'm so glad to know that they have both gone to a 'better place' where there is no more pain. God bless you.

Time passes by so quickly. But Jerry has been with you all along and he knows you miss him and love him. I know he's smiling down on you. Hugs and God bless.

you so easily bring tears to my eyes, cowboy! i understand how deeply you care, and death certainly wouldn't change that. Perhaps only intensify it, even as you continue living, as he would have wanted..

May he rest in peace, and may you sleep soundly my friend..
