The long stare of the wolf.....

And of Man ?, He has done everything he could have , to blame the wolf for everything , killing the cows , killing the sheep , devouring the lambs, the calves and even small children [not really ]. And yet , at least some great minds with common sense have reintroduced the wolf to north America. Having read , for a few years , everything I could about wolves both in modern times as well as in ancient history , I too am convinced that it is mankind and not the wolf that has the biggest stake in reintroducing the wolf to America ! There has to be more to life than subsidies to corporate ranchers , to the sheep ranches and to the gated communities of the last of the "wild places".....Montana , Wyoming , Idaho and other states now are seeing a fast growing return of the grey wolf !

So I wrote this for the grey wolf ............

You have always remained at the fringe
of existence itself .....of annihilation

Steel wires strangled the breath
from the mothers with unborn

Exploding traps that shot
buckshot into your mouth at bait piles

Poison that left you twitching in
the shadows to die alone

Yet my friend ....I would rather you
were here than even I wonder of nature should bear the brunt
of mankind

Howl on my treasured soulmate
From the very center of the wild

And don't worry will remain long after
man is gone

The wolf is a mystical and wonderful part of Nature. We now have two or three packs in Oregon . One young male you may have read about traveled from northeastern Oregon to somewhere in northern California apparently seeking company and tracked by radio transmitter. Up!

This brought tears to the eyes. I've never been close up to wolves but I've always found them to be lovely and their eyes so soulful. Their howls sound like music. I enjoyed this tribute to the wolf very much.

Hi Gypsy! Yes I have only seen them in captivity in West Yelloestone , a sanctuary for wounded wolves and grizzlies ! Now there are thousands of them in the US.

What a tribute, ahorseback! Man is to be the steward of all God has blessed us with, but all too often the ugly side has come out and animals have suffered for it. Very moving!
