The snow fell silently outside
We sat together as a family, broken.
We wore black, but the snow was so very white.
We cried and stared at each other in disbelief.
The snow fell silently outside
Our feet crunched, breaking the white landscape
and disappearing into its icy blanket.
How softly those flakes fell through the night.
Building their white masterpiece.
Their tiny shapes melted on warm cheeks
of little ones playing, building snowmen.
The icy cold enveloped our pain and made it clear.
The snow fell silently outside
