The Table (tanka)

Here is the table

Which had seen so much of life

Memories there fed

Magic moments were there spread

And now it sits so empty

Oh Martin, you're going to make me cry... do you need someone to throw across the table? I'm just sayin'...

I almost grieve connecting with your tanka

Sadly, a family sitting around a table seems a rare event these days.

Thanks for this.

I like the whole table concept so many things happen at the table and now it sits alone :)

I've seen my share of empty tables.

Many memories are created and contained within inanimate objects. It's miraculous if you really think about it. Nice poem, Martin.

Very profound for just a few words. But that is what you master so well. Great piece Martin.

Hi Martin,

This one brought back memories of sitting at my grandmother's table after her funeral and looking across at the empty chair she would always sit in.

Very moving. Thank you for sharing.

Interesting...brings to mind one of those plaques you find on the front of otherwise mundane old buildings where someone famous once lived. I enjoyed it :-)

Now I'm sitting here thinking about tables and what they see throughout their lives! Oh dear, I must remember to be careful around my table ;)

Seriously, this is a beautiful and sad poem that reflects life so well.

Voted up, beautiful and awesome.

This brought to mind a round coffee table I have in my living room because it has been with me since childhood. You could say we are friends for life the table and I.

We love our kitchen table and we hardly ever sit in the kitchen when company comes. Beautiful poem. Voted up.
