The Wife Who Waited (poem)
They sent him home with ribbons and parades
This man who wore such valor on his chest
And all her fears were finally at rest
The wife who waited by the window shades
-
She always knew he was the very best
A man whose plans left small time for charades
And his love for her it never fades
The wife who waited teardrops marred here breast
-
The flowers in the garden have all changed
The songs of birds seemed different last spring
The wife who waited watches husband roam
-
Now who will fix a dream set so estranged
And who can teach young hearts again to sing
The wife who waited for her love at home
