Things we shouldn't ask of a child .......

It did no good to ask the angels to answer
the silent prayers of a child
Nor to tame the cold drafts of desperation
begging safety from the wild

Before the wolf moon of january I swore
I could love without regret
Just before the promise fulfilled
seeing things I'd never forget

The primal winds from the north
now reflect wounds once thought extinct
The roving ice on the frozen lakes
pounding away on the brink

Just once in a while though I cannot
shake the visions
The painless cut of the razor
of ever silent incisions

You who age the soul of children
will be punished in due time
He saw with old man eye's as a boy
now he see's just fine

I saw with my own eye's your torchered
victims left hurting and near deranged
For those who suffer child abuse ......or inflict it......
nothing in time remains unchanged

My words seem so inadequate as I try to comment on your heartfelt hub..You have brought a reminder to those who desire to hurt any child that one day their fate will come. I pray worse than they can imagine. A precious child is hurt and they have aged inside and no longer a child.

"Just once in a while though I cannot

shake the visions

The painless cut of the razor

of ever silent incisions"

Perhaps the adult who cuts themselves, in that moment, does not feel the pain of their childhood. I feel the anguish and hurt in this piece. Another reminder of what child abuse does to our precious little ones.

A gut wrenching piece to open the New Year. Let no child feel the sting, pain and demoralizing agony of abuse. I felt that sting as a child and know of the sadness I felt on a daily basis. Tears would flow as anger grew in my soul, it took many many years to get past the past. My friend you touched my heart as you will many with this exemplary piece. Happy New Year, God bless the children of our world. May they stay safe.

so true, it's very hard for a child to overcome abuse especially from the very person who was supposed to take care of them...

An amazing poem. Almost left me in tears. I don't understand why people do it. But, this poem ( again ) almost left me in tears.

Hi Sunnie day! I hope your holidays were perfect! Child or spousal abuse is a subject close to my heart , At times I'm still angered by memories of childhood days , The biggest irony of some abuse is that we don't want to admit that it was just that , if we do then we admit our parents were far less than perfect ! The contradictions of the heart and mind ?...thank you for sharing .......:-}

As with Sunny, my words just don't cut it. The pain and the ongoing suffering here is a horror that has plagued humanity for eons. Some things are never gotten over, only buried for a time to rear their ugly heads when they can. There are many who say a greater hell awaits someone who could abuse the most innocent of us, children. I have to believe it's so. This ripped my heart out which they say is the mark of good poetry.

Will you never cease to amaze me with your acute knowledge of childhood abuse? Many of us have traveled down that road. It lives with us each day, never completely going away. I felt your pain of cutting although i never went there. Maybe it would have relieved the pain? Thank you for sharing....

Moving.Heartfelt.Poignant.

A child has always been a gift. A blessing. He should be protected not exploited. He should be loved not harmed. He should be respected not taken for granted.

Thank you for this eye-opener. God bless you.
