Those Pennies For My Thoughts

A penny for each thought....

Thoughts for exchange.
Thoughts for exchange. | Source

Old thoughts for new; old thoughts for new....

I wish I had a penny for every single thought.

Think of all the things I surely could have bought.

I got an education and raised their value, too.

I share them now quite freely. What’s their worth to you?

I’ve been a teacher, world journeyer, and such,

Sometimes the payroll salary didn’t really matter much.

I’d do it all again for sure, if given half a chance.

I gave up almost all of it in the name of true romance.

I shared them with my children, and grandkids too.

I sure hope they listened and remember a thing of two.

Now in this little house just beside the road,

I’m waiting for a visitor to probe my mother lode.

It may not be so soon, in fact it could be late,

These thoughts I’ve stored up most certainly can wait.

But something there is to keep in mind:

The US penny is… the depreciating kind.

This is just adorable. There is so much value in the life long thoughts of the older generation. So much brilliance to be gained. Your genius is certainly worth much more than a penny. :) Well done!

I love this - thank you for sharing it here. I'm guessing that your children and grandchildren will certainly remember a thing or two. Good job!

I love this. The poem made me smile and made me think, how much are my thoughts worth, more than a penny I hope.

Voted up and beautiful.

I enjoyed this a lot. Penny for your thoughts-before the penny depreciates. :)

What are your thoughts worth? A penny for your thoughts?

Thanks for commenting on the hopes and dreams for mine.

I liked this. Wouldn't that just be great to go through life thinking and sharing your thoughts and picking up pennies. But pennies aside I remember something that happened to me ages ago. I spent my last cent buying food in a supermarket when I lived in Queens, N.Y. And as I put my wallet away I thought wouldn't it be nice to have some wine with dinner. However no money. I turned around to go out of the store and there on the floor was $5. No kidding it happened and it makes you think.

The Canadian Penny is worthless it costs 1.5 cents to produce 1 cent.

Because of this the Canadian Government in its infinite wisdom has at long last decided to not produce pennies anymore.

Start collecting Canadian Pennies they will become worth plenty if this lasts.

Dave Matthews: America has previously had a two cents coin. Perhaps we will go back to that here. Of course, if our economy gets any worse, the government will expect us to carve our own wooden nickels!

Gypsy Rose Lee: We have finally started keeping a log of our righteous wishes which come true. I should write a Hub on them, for they really do, just like yours and those of so many of God's children when it is both God's will and God's wisdom that they should.

Loved it, it made me smile.

The rhythm and rhyme were great, too.

We in Australia used to have 2c coins, too, now the smallest denomination is 5c.

Voted up.

BlossomSB: Interesting to hear that Australia's smallest coin in circulation is a five cents piece. Ahh, inflation! Isn't it grand (ughh!)? Glad you enjoyed this Hub. (So far, five ratings from 9 Hubbers.)

raciniwa: We can share our love, but even that means a full sharing of our thoughts at some point. "The good old days" are with us always, but sometimes it seems they just live on in our thoughts!
