Through the Darkest Night

By Tony DeLorger © 2012

Tear away the crusty layers,

and a heart beats just as yours,

even in the darkest minds,

potential for love resides.

It's freedom however is another matter,

reliant of that glimmer of hope

that can present itself to a fearful heart,

to implore a single step into light.

What most appears evil in life,

is usually a deep-seated recognition

of what we are all capable,

and therefore strikes fear and denial.

We are all shells with infinite potential,

filled with dreams and wants,

and all open to the nurture of life,

the security of self awareness and contentment.

Yet in some, the denial of need creates distortion,

a realignment of the hope

and desires of an accepting heart,

leaving an abyss, darkness searching for light.

Only then does what we see as evil explore expression,

and manifest in cruelty and hatred,

when all along the embrace of understanding,

could well have fulfilled the beginning of dreams.

We are all of the same fashion,

all capable of the worst and the best of humanity,

each one of us wearing the responsibility of life,

how we conduct ourselves and explore the potential of love.

Wonderful poem on the choices we make in this earthly life. We all have the same parts to our souls and can use it for good or evil. You did a great job on this dark poem.
