Tides of Yearning

Fennelseeds photo ! Aint she talented ?
Fennelseeds photo ! Aint she talented ?

They ebb and flow from within until all but
calmness prevails
these tides
And they are unfair at times too
there are times when
the turning sea of anxieties
leave nothing but turmoil
in that sandy
place we call
a soul

Are our individual lives anything more than
private little beaches where we
suffer yet alone ?
And are the tides that envelope us
anything more than the way
it has to be

I often wonder is there anything more beautiful
than two lovers hand
in hand her jabbering away
him carrying her shoes
and what is it that gives them
such happiness
The sea?
The din of the surf and
seagulls?

And yet most of us are still wading in
our tidal pools of solitude
whether alone or not
yet still there can
be hope
Give us the sea and this din of
soul moving sounds
And we will ease this
yearning

Absolutely beautiful ahorseback; you make the woes of everyday life dissolve within your poem.

Your poem here does just what Qudsia says it does, dissolving the everyday woes of life. Beaches are alright for walking alone on occasion but they are really meant to be shared. There's someone for everyone in this world, although sometimes the meeting of two kindred souls can be delayed, it's more often than not worth the wait.

Beaches are lovely whether we walk with each other, or alone. I guess it just depends what we need.

Voted up.

The tides come and go but hopefully those who hold hands as they walk along the beach will share together and stay together. Enjoyed your poem.

wow..what a timely read for me, Cowboy - considering that Sandy is making landfall as i type...sigh..

what is once calm and beautiful can quickly turn ugly and deadly...

this can apply to the ocean - AND relationships..lol..

i love your work - you know this - so i won't continue 'jabbering on' about it!

quietly voting and sharing...

(lol)

Well said

Solitude and relationships go hand in hand if not worked upon. Tides of attachment can lead to sorrow or yearning for more.

I've always been the happiest when I walk along the beach of any body of water, lake, river or sea. I love the sounds of the tides splasing in and ebbing out. The gulls swooping and diving, the salt in the air and the smell of seaweed in my nostrils. Oh take me down to the sea, the wonderful sea. It washes away all that burdens us, even if only for a temporary rest, it cleanses us. Beautifully written my poet. Voted Up, awesome, beautiful and shared.

This poem is both a piece of beauty and of depth. I think that we are indeed, no matter whether in a relaionship or not, our own island experiencing emotions and thoughts that no one else can truly share no matter how intimately we may think we are woven and knit together. No one truly can know the pains or joys of another. Very beautifully written, ahorseback!

Timetowrite , Thank you dear , It means so much when I realize a connection like yours . Lets face it as man and woman we aren't always on the same emotional page . And yet we both yearn to be that "shoulder ' that understands as well as having someone to listen to our soul questions ! A" secret ".......as a man , I appreciate this more than even touch sometimes.

Awesome and beautiful play of words, piercing through my soul. Love the tranquility it gives and Fennelseed's photographs are delightful.

I always have a special admiration of the waters...lake shore, sea shore, harbour fronts, beaches...and my dream house (when as a budding girl in high school where the classroom turns into a place of floating dreams "day dreaming") was to have a house of glass, limestone, bricks, coco lumber sitting above a cliff overlooking the waters...a window to every new day's rising sun and to when the sun sleeps, the harmonic sounds of happy birds and waters kissing the rocks (not slapping, haha), watching the moon's glow pulling the waters back in ebb tide...

Coffee , I once built a log cabin where deep in the woods and the dark of night the full moon would light up the forests like daylight , thats when I would lie on the living room floor in the middle of the night and watch through the atrium doors as the moon moved through the tops of the pine trees. Serenity is right theere waiting for us , And you with your dream house on the water ? Are you there yet , its waiting ! Be well my new friend ! I like the way you dream !

Been away from HubPages too long. On coming back, Passionate Poetry directed me to this one. I am so glad. It is autumn setting in, here, in East India and even as late as ten in the morning it is cool. The sea with the sea gulls is a picture not very familiar to me, as an Indian. But the long golden or white shore and the lapping of the water, sometimes soft and sometimes eager- that is the same. Turning the inside out and the outside in- that tidal metaphor is wonderful. Much appreciated. Voted and shared.
