Time is but a river ................Verse

Will it be the clock or the current ?

Getting caught up in the current of time
the hour causes
the heart to grow weak and wanting
getting mired down
in the flow
dangerous and daunting

Counting the progress of life itself
by spaces
foolish , fickle and foolhardy
when we could know
by the liquid that
neither runs too fast nor too tardy?

Will it be then the hourglass and the hands
of the smallest
measure of the mind
Or will we look at time itself like a river
a beginning and an end
the perfect rhythm and rhyme

Stand and watch the river as it bends and swirls
or in slow water
it ceases to run at all
But I ? I will live life by the river
where there is no clock
where water is the only sound at all

-------------------------------------------------------
Just a poem about measuring our lives , we watch the clock too much when in truth , time is but the movement of life , like a river by that which we should be measuring.

Thanks for this as I just checked my clock and got anxious whether or not I had enough time. I was starting off wrong --but now right. When I was involved in river running we always said "go with the flow". Thanks again.

This is a beautiful way to measure time. I love to stand by a river and just watch the flow....

Time goes by no matter how we measure it, doesn't it Ed? Your poetry always sends an important message and leaves your readers with pleasant thoughts. I love sitting by the flowing creek that runs along my property. There's something so soothing and hypnotic about water.

Nice poem, Ed.....Paula

Yes, Ed, it's interesting, both how the urge to write varies and the urge to share it!

Ed! It's been awhile. Good to see you. I'd love to see your work published in a book. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

This one is peaceful to me. But I always liked the idea of time as a river.

Loved this. You made me take a most poetic journey down a quiet river with the water lapping beneath my little boat. Hope you have a great weekend Ed. Keep these gems coming.
