To Soar Above The Ego, Like An Eagle

Despair

Eagle

Sometimes, I do not know why stuff happens;

The reason things spiral out of control,

Send me down this tunnel of despair.

It is then that I either reach out to Something Higher,

Or try to unravel the questions: “‘Why, How?”

An approach which sometimes deepen my turmoil,

And I’m not spared, as life dishes out its own pathways.

I know my needs intuitively,

But I’m constantly diverted, by cravings or desires,

Which pushes me along in a spiral of suffering,

Seemingly bringing comforts, but deafening my Soul.

I feel an ardent need to be alive;

A constant thirst, a longing to evolve, to become… somebody.

Although I’m a part of and blend into the earth,

Like the lower species and nature’s grandeur,

I aspire to go higher; deeper …to transform my baser instincts;

Seek ways to improve my worth; my inner beauty.

Come! O Lover, let us rise above this Jinxed enchantment;

To soar beyond the Ego, like an eagle,

Flapping our wings and flying, into the vastness of infinity.

Ah! Despair... despair... despair. Sometimes it is created by us, but it truly helps to nurture and grow. An excellent poem! The aim is to soar high, higher, highest... beyond the earthly bonds. Good one.

I feel all the despair and the longings you've mentioned here. I'd love to soar like the eagle above it all. You've penned beautifully the innermost thoughts and emotions of mankind.

A great message. Giving the eagle's example to elevate oneself from all these illusions of earthly desires and despairs. Thanks for it.

Hello Manatita! I am doing fine. I have just been away for a while. My project load is becoming manageable and so I am finding my way back to HubPages and the people I enjoy here. I missed you, too!

Wouldn't it be great to do that, soar high above the world and gain a different perspective? You've described the angst so well, that which we all feel. I think too that you have given us a glimpse of the hope and fresh approach which is possible. Lovely words and gorgeous photos.

Wonderful. I sometimes no become a little frustrated because I get glimpses of being where I see the world from on high and then I lose them, to try again.

I am writing but not a lot as renovating a house is top priority currently. Then the occasional SOS to look after grandchildren! Time is at a premium. Lots of drafts waiting but polishing them up and publishing is going to be slow!

Thanks for asking.

this poem does carry the weight of despair my friend.. full raw emotions.. very good.. :)

Yes indeed, Frank. It was a deliberate attempt to put this one 'into the world' as I call them...poems expressing the sort of everyday occurrences of us humans.

My Teacher use to say that despair sometimes help us. So not that I have problems myself right now, but it's meant to find those with whom it resonates. Part of life's struggles. Thank you so much!

I love the way the one who is expressing these thoughts is able to talk themselves through despair and into a higher realm. Sometimes all it takes is having a little pep talk with yourself.

manatita44 profile image

manatita44 4 months ago from london Author

Ultimately yes, not a pep talk initially, but a series of talks probably for many lifetimes which will eventually bear the desired fruits. This is the nature of the law, or you can say of human ignorance. Thank you so much, my dear Shauna.
