To my sleeping husband
Note to my hub followers: Normally I write historical hubs. Occasionally I write poetry when the muse strikes me, but I usually post on my own personal blog for only friends to read. This is the first time I felt inclined to share on a forum such as this. I may feel inclined in the future to post poetry. I don't know.
The sound of your heartbeat and the rhythm of your light snores
The scent of the linger aftershave and deodorant mingled with mouthwash and tooth paste
The feel of the weight of your arm as you hold me close, pulling me into your safety
Fills me with joy and love
I know I am secure with you sleeping next to me
Nothing can harm me
When you are there
Even in the vast darkness of night
I know without even opening my eyes
That you will protect me
Should the nightmares come and I wake in fright
Should I have a sleepless night
The steadiness of your breathing tells me that you will be near me
I can sleep
Knowing that I love you and am loved by you
