To the Core

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

The core of any human being,

reveals itself not by will but by deed,

in often contentious and harsh circumstances;

the revelation what we used to call character.

It is in these difficult times that intentions are known,

not the crust of outward impressions or acceptable guise,

but the underlying thoughts and will

of a human being in fight or flight.

The revelations are often a shock,

more often than not in contradiction to the presented self,

what we blindly accepted as a true and understood person

we thought we knew.

Often the purpose of connection in relationships,

is far more than understood needs and desires,

many souls with subconscious hidden objectives and drives,

obscured even from themselves.

These people are slaves to their inadequacies,

the missing pieces lost to a less than perfect past,

and now driven in twisted ways to rectify a stunted self-perception,

all the while destroying positive outcomes and creating havoc.

At the core of each of us lies the truth,

who we are and of what we are capable,

this truth only evident to an open heart, willing to accept responsibility,

and to those who witness the eruptions of others in ignorance.

How many relationships have we had when we have been fooled by a perceived persona, only to be shocked when, under difficult circumstance, the true person is revealed with all their devious intentions and inadequacies. The truth is so often overlooked for a simple wish or need to be fulfilled. Life is an ongoing lesson.

Thanks Michele, glad you enjoyed it. I've been off HubPages for a few months too. Been overseas, and now returned, have a million words to write and catch up.

Very interesting! I have been off hubpages for a while. Your interesting poem "to the core" reminds me of some of the poems I missed reading.
