Today Too I will Remember You.........

Memorial day ....such a strange way to
celebrate any life
Who do we celebrate ...father ...mother
child or wife
I'm not sure why its nessesary to
designate a day
Don't we remember anyone we've lost
isn't a memory here to stay
I remember ....yes I remember each
and every lost soul
The lives they lived and even what were
thier life 's role
Today I watched a woman walk an old man
slowly across a manicured wall
Passing by the stones and reading each
as if he knew them all
No......I remember each one....today...
each day...tomorrow
But one thing that goes away with time
is the sharp edge of sorrow

Yes.....another day of memorial

I also remember every day and every time I look at a picture, I pray for others. How many are really meditating on this day and how many are enjoying the lake, picnic and fun? How many watch from a distance and will go through the discarded food after the picnic is over, grab some and sleep in the wooods tonight? Yes, we must remember every day!

Its a day of reflection for me but doesn't need to be one so I remember love ones who have lost their lives. People that are close will always be in my heart but there is no harm in celebrating too.

It goes without saying I love your poems and stories. It always keeps me thinking.

I may not be an American, but I do know what is is like to lose heroes, family friends, neighbors. Happy Memorial Day! And yes, the sharp edge goes away with time, though the memory stays. Every day is memorial day when you lose someone.

I just saw a beautiful tradition on TV - from Hawaii. On Memorial day, floating lanterns are placed in the water. Something about the light always living in our hearts. The visual was amazing.
