Totalis, a Poem

Totalis

Scrying glass

whipped by storm tears,

deep within... even a gesture

brings news,

for all our worn out

holes

the eyes?

get hit enough

the eyes turn inwards.

But, oh, such vision!,

direct your eyes to

the left , to the right,

up and down, then inward.

the leaf falling on your dog,

and staying there for a time...

voles small as a quarter,

ruffling thru the blanket of yellow-

the leaves that scorned their home...

call some ancient cry

to the pole struck stars,

that tent of heaven,

umber beginnings

of that so stark turning...

let us cheat our clapboard walls

yet again, and roam

with the wild things-

raven that curves the walls

of Hatcher's Pass,

comes gliding, laughing

across the field atop the world-

set your sights as carefully

as a Burmese Dancer,

or the fox that walks

our car's roof at night,

searching for clews

to our life;

amanita, mushrooms spring

from every crack.

the danger of flooding

is iminent,

the scrying glass

is not smooth,

storm tears

etch her surface.

If this is you, take care... our memories become that shapeless glass. Thank you for this

Beautiful piece Lil. Flashing images that threaten to detach and just become great lines--but every time the cohesive bind pulls them back and integrates them further into the overall concept. Brilliant insights . You ARE a poet. Heaven knows (I actually wrote that. . . .) what will happen if you get this ahem stuff sorted out. . .

I had to read both of you three times to understand, you said, yes, good. Oh... aha good, good, good. I value your words, Hatter, Moon, a little bit more every day. You go on the ride, never fearful of what you might find. I, am fearful, but MUST do it. I am compelled by greater things than myself... is that poetry? If i could show you the inards of me, I suppose it would be just poetry... How I love you both for your bravery.

This is really good and oh such a wonderful reminder to see vigilantly. Those final words are ever so wise and wonderful. You forever impress me with your vision and ability to place words in perfect order. I am even more impressed by Moon right now though. laugh

Moon, may I say that I love you? Your sense of humor is slick, sly and wonderful.
