Turning His World Upside Down

When she came into his life

he had just stepped off of a wild ride

his heart had been battered and bruised

by a cold hearted woman

and he was ready to swear off love

forever more

then she came along

a woman who was so lovely

she seemed so caring

and she swept his heart away

he often wondered

what magic she possessed

she filled his days with happiness

and his nights with romantic dreams

came the day when she seemed different

as if she were not the same

when he held her

and whispered deep in the night

her responses were cool

not filled with passion

like always before

when his troubled sleep found him

he asked her the next day

she simply smiled

she said she just was that way

he loved how she would always

come running to him

like an excited little girl

eager to please

he hoped he was the candy

that like a child she’d craved

her kisses always honey sweet

dripping with passion and love

came the times when she seemed

distant and far away

he’d be the one to approach her

and take her hand

she wouldn’t run to him anymore

when he asked her she’d smile

tell him that was just her way

now his heart was telling him

to save heartache and pain

even if he wanted her

he didn’t want to play her games

so before he fell into that black void

where you no longer know

if it’s love or passion

and you no longer can walk away

he took her aside and told her

she needed to decide

if she was going to be

true to him or if they’d just part

she seemed to have tears in her eyes

and he wondered if he was mistaken

but then out of the corner of his eye

he saw that little smirk on her lips

and knew she was playing with him

and he let her just walk away

for awhile he drifted

until another woman came his way

this time he was wary

not wanting to give his heart away

but she was like the sun

and her love was so very real

so he knew that he had found

the love he needed at last

they loved nature and all things wild and free

so much they could share

he felt such bliss with her

came the day when they were picnicking

down by the river

when he saw her standing on a hillside

and then she was running toward him

her smile so very sure

and when she was about to embrace him

he grabbed a hold of her hands

while his love packed up their picnic

she told him she’d made a mistake

that she had always loved him

she just didn’t know how to say it

this was just her way

he held her hands and looked into her eyes

there was no warmth there

only her smile was sure

so he asked her who she planned on being

the following week

who she planned on loving then

and anger sparked her eyes

it was then he knew

she was quick on the disguise

putting on the right mask every time

he pushed her aside

told her he’d found a new love

and as he and his love

walked away hand in hand

she stood watching them

crying her crocodile tears

I hope that Latvia has no crocodile tears in the crucial days and weeks ahead. This is such a critical time in world history. We need historians to keep reminding us of what our world has experienced in the past, so we don't have to make the same mistakes again and again. Wishing you and yours safe happiness.

Hi Rasma-I really liked watching this story of in genuine and real love unfold. I was rooting for him the whole time and so glad his last love turned out to be the real thing. I think we can all relate to those past loves that talk the talk, but don't walk the walk. Wonderful and hopeful narrative poem my friend.

Thank you Manatita.

Thank you Shauna.

Thank you Ruby and your man Bruce inspires.

Thank you Demas. Problem here is that the people might have learned a lesson or two but the politicians who run things never do.

“Crocodile tears” tell the tale of a disingenuous heart. He was fortunate in seeing through her disguise. Great poem…and I loved the Springsteen video!
