Turning away from time .........Verse

I sit quietly allowing only simple presence of mind
to keep track of my time
wanting simply to unhook from life
from the hours
from all those I know
A soft dappling of sun and shadow are all
that filter through to me from outside
of my own personal space
I have won and though I may have won
at a great cost

No one around but the soft chirping of wildlife
the finches of august and the raven above
the crows and the blue jay all of
them preparing for autumn
A coyote or fox barks in the distant forest
as instantly a goodly wind shimmers
the alder leaves and slowly
bends the pine bows

Hours go by or so it seems as the sun
makes its way towards early evening
and still I remain
I will await the quiet cooling hours of dusk
yet without a watch or clock
I will know when my nighttime arrives
by the diminishing of light
here in these quiet trees

And through all of this I wonder but
only briefly why I savor this time alone
more than companionship itself
more than love even friend
and I do realize that
perhaps there is something wrong
inside the man
inside the mind
the soul

But I so much enjoy turning away from time
except to experience time's ever present change
in the day-light or darkness
in the soft rain or the light
and windless falling snow
More than anything I realize
perhaps without celebration at all
that I have won

Beautiful. Great cost and nightmares may come. But for his "time" he is fortunate to be able to sit peaceably by himself. Sometimes I cannot do that.

Thoughts about thoughts and thinking. Just been there and done that.

Time hangs heavy when alone, but as you say, solitude is a time for reflection. It seems when we all had to punch a time clock we were running against time. Now, we have time to wonder and think. I liked this!

You have just described happiness! After all, what is happiness other than peaceful, contented serenity without worries?

Well done!

In a busy life, time apart can be so healing - and necessary. It brings peace and an appreciation of the natural world around us. Good poem.

Thoughts have a way of letting us sort things out and they can bring both pleasant and unwelcome memories. It's nature that usually soothes and comforts me. Hope you have a great weekend Ed.
