Unchain My Heart

One more day and night

He seemed to have made

A living hell for himself

The day he told her good-bye

He was raised an abused child

Never having any reason to smile

So he never knew love

And never gave any

His friends never wondered

Why he was so strange

They accepted him for who he was

And he enjoyed their company

Then along came the beauty

Who could steal anyone’s heart

And when he first met Linda

He was taken aback

At the blues eyes shining

And her raven black hair

They sort of drifted together

And she moved on in

They partied and laughed

And had a great time with his friends

It was when they were alone

That he found he couldn’t open up his heart

Too much had happened in his life

And he just didn’t know how to give

Linda took what he could offer

And they held each other

Throughout the night

So that whatever nightmares

Lurked about

They couldn’t pull them apart

But reality has a way of creeping in

And when Linda said I love you

He just hugged and kissed her

She was too much in love to mind

He wasn’t going anywhere

And that was just fine

But time doesn’t stand still

And life has to move on

When Linda told him she longed to marry

And have a child

He simply felt ice close about his heart

He couldn’t, wouldn’t commit

He didn’t even know what love was

He had never had any himself

His friends all encouraged him

To tell her what it was all about

But he couldn’t let it out

Too much pain was suppressed

And he didn’t want to live it all again

Instead he wound up pushing his love aside

And she started to wonder why

Things just didn’t work out anymore

And one day he told her

She’d be better off without him

There were tears and regrets

But she didn’t protest

She just figured he didn’t love her

And he never would

The day she left

Was the day his world ended

Now it had been several months

And he’d come to realize

The she was the one

Who held the key to his heart

His friends shook their heads

And said he should have known

Would she forgive him?

He didn’t’ know

So he had his friends help him

They created a video

And he spoke from his heart

And this time when he said I love you

When he asked her to forgive and come back

He meant every single word

And then he waited for her reply

After another restless night

Bleary eyed and tired

In the early morn

The doorbell rang

And there was Linda

All smiles and full of love

The waiting had ended

And his love had come home

All I could think about as I read this was the song "Unchained Melody"...appropriate I think. :)

He was very lucky, not many get second chances. Up and sharing.

A sad story . . . with a happier ending. I agree with Jackie: lucky for a second chance.

Great job demonstrating the trials and tribulations of love and how it sometimes takes so much time to find the one who had been the one all along-Kim

You know Bill I hadn't thought of that song but your right perhaps that might have been even a better choice. Well I had this Chicago song on my mind.

Great if we can get second chances Jackie. Thanks for the vote and share.

All depends on the situation Nell and if there is love on both sides.

Glad you enjoyed this Martin. My inspirations always take me down one memory lane or the other.

If we have that one special person we are blessed wetnosedogs.

Love can lead us down all kinds of paths Kim. Great if we can connect.

This was so sad and you really felt for the character. Then it skillfully turned around. I am really glad he found a happy ending.

i adore your poetic stories of broken hearts and unrequited love. They seem to always turn out with the sun shining the couple smiling off into eternity..

your forgiving perspective on the human condition should be adopted by more!

beautifully done, Rasma...
