Unheard lay the wishes of winter ......

I would like to think of myself as perhaps
a fine listener and yet
As I listen to the winds of january
seems I want to just forget

The pleading and moans of the cold
begging winds aloft
The loudest whispers ever from storm fronts that
blow in hard
yet leave so soft

The promise of the wolf moon broken
again and again
Just as if he promised friendship then broke
the very heart of his friend

It's a love hate thing this affliction
this love of cold and distance moon
No worries though these icy evenings
this incessant snow will
be gone as soon

Yet it always leaves me wishing I'd loved
her a little longer
this night the wolves delight
In the distant the winter gives way
and the howls die off
as the days legthen
to light

Just a little poem about cold lonesome winds in january , As I walked the dogs today on the ice crusted fields , each time I stopped to listen ,so did they and I would find them looking at me as if to say thats enough .........can we go back to the fire now !

You have an incredible and uncanny way of capturing the moment and putting into perfect aspect. Bringing to life the actual winds and cold of this season.

I have been patiently counting the days while watching them grow beautifully longer. I will be a happy girl when the Spring season is here for you to bring to life as well.

I just can't get it. I can't create much, but I can usually observe someone, get it, and appear talented by creating something semi original by mimicking the other person's basics. Sort of a reverse engineering thing. Done it all my life. Nothing honestly original here. Reverse engineer and call it being influenced. Couple hundred songs and I have no idea how much is me. Anyway, I just can't get the poetry thing. I mean REAL poetry like this. Can't reverse engineer this. I can only enjoy.

I just wrote a little ditty about someone called "Middle Age Fantasy" Here's a line from it ... "I likes them freckles on your nose ... the way you looks with out your clothes. You're the one, the girl for me. You-Are- a middle age fantasy ...

Okay, I've written more serious things than this, but this tells you just how simple minded I really am. lol

Always impressive my friend ...

Ed,

Teach me how to write beautiful poetry like this and I'll teach you four chords in about 20 minutes. Then you'lll have my musical tallent wrapped up pretty much pal. No, you've got something special going on. I just wish I could help you to get it out there on a large scale. Problem is ... poets are a step above old rock n rollers. You hardly ever see one in a bar fight. (although I'm pretty sure one gave me my first KO) I'm just not in those circles, but I DO know some very dysfunctional people and if I run across the right one, I'll turn em on to you. I don't mean that the way that just sounded, but you know what I'm saying. Shit. If I have a reasonable thought, I'll sell it. I just mean ... I'm gonna shut up before I get in more trouble. I think your stuff is awesome Ed. :/

Well I'll say one thing Jim , you are a funny guy ! But I correct you , poets are one small step above 80's rockers ! lol.....You know us shaved headed poets all hate the big hair days ! Except on a woman that is , I am a hopeless male ! Ahhhh cord progression !!!!......Nope I aint got the talent I always felt though that if I had the talent for a guitar I wouldn't be a hopeless romantic ! If I could be anyone I'm not I'd settle for Gordon Lightfoot !

Giving up the blond locks wasn't easy, but my girl loves it. I have a couple of muscles here and there and I gots the Mr. Clean thing going . lol Man, I thought I was an only child. One of my big inspirations was Jim Morrison. I wrote a bunch of strange heavy poetry by reverse engineering "Horse Latitudes" long time ago. My band even did Door covers because I could pull off Morrison without butchering it. Not many could pull off Morrison. I also do Lennon and that's a quite a gulf between the two. Outside an open mic once in a while my audiences are my kids and grand kids and they;re easy to empress, so I'm sticking to that venue from now on Anyway, his style was called French Tragedy or something like that. Do you know anything about this?

Love your poem and the reference to your dogs. My dog is the same, when the weather is bad she goes a short distance and then tugs on the lead to get me to go back home. Sensible animals!

No Ed. I was lucky to play with some very talented musicians. I did a pretty good job as front man on a good night. When I was on, it was a very strong show. Good as a large portion the groups who made it big at the time.. Unfortunately I was doing a lot of alcohol and every pill I could get my hands on during that period. On a bad night, I drug four great musicians totally backwards. People never knew which band would be playing.

We still get together and do a reunion gig once a year up in Omaha. It's a great time and we have a ball. Ed, I'm decent at a lot of things, but true excellence at anything is no where to be found. At least not yet. I'm still swinging, and I'll never quit challenging myself. But I'm a nobody bro. Decent size fish in a small pond is about as far as I've gone so far. I probably WILL have a positive impact on how Washington does business. I'm obsessed with this, and there's nobody like me out there.

Sorry to come on here and write a book. I'm not putting myself down. I'm very happy with who I am. I just don't want to mislead anyone into thinking I'm more than I am. I have a tendency to highlite things and make them appear to be bigger than they are I think. Hey, I'm a marketing guy

Hi ahorseback.hope its warming up a bit for you all over there..its bedlam in UK,-but we are relatively lucky I suppose, winters aren't like they used to be over here when I was a kid we always had good snow showers nearly every winter,we used to make our own sledges and get our dogs to pull them, now the kids sit indoors playin their war games.,

Winters over here definately gone milder over the latter years tho.

Hope you don't mind me sayimg ahorseback, maybe you could write some lyrics for our friend above me and his band...regards..

I love this wintry poem, because I related so well to your thoughts. You spoke of many of my feelings about the winter, it's cold and wind and storms.......It's so stunning to look out at winter's beauty while safe, comfy and warm inside by the fire.....Knowing the whole time, it will all soon pass.........UP+++
