Anger ~ Up In Smoke

Up In Smoke

Onto parchment
with pen and ink,
spill the venom,
Let anger shrink.

Words diffuse
the pent up wrath
to redirect
its aftermath...

Spew it out
onto the page.
Spare no hatred,
spite or rage.

Write it out,
then let it go.
No one has
to see or know.

Then strike a match
and let it flame...
Up in smoke,
the beast will tame.

The raging wrath
that yearns to kill
will yield unto
the burning quill.

attemptedhumour, I see myself in young bella, intense and passionate in all things. This little trick was taught to me early on and diverted alot of my tendencies to act out on my emotions, not just anger. Thank you, as always for your wonderful support, you mean alot!

I got the sense right away that you were nodding to dear Bella with this one, (having just come over from her latest outpourings...) I like the way you put this together!

tnderhrt23 profile image

tnderhrt23 5 years ago Author

flying fish, this was a definite nod to bella...I hope she takes it that way. Her writing is so emotive and rich, a wonderful way to purge the system of pent up anxiety. I have been where she is, more than once...she has tools I did not have until much later in life. Again, thanks!

Very nice tnderhrt23! I actually did think of Bella as I read :) This reminds me of when my very first long term relationship ended. The person I was with was in the service so I had MANY cards and letters. When I was ready to let go ~ which took a long time I might add ~ I sat in front of the fire place reading each piece and then tossing it in the fire. It was extremely freeing!

Well done! Nice pace, it was an easy rhythm to get into and flowed nicely with the message. Bravo!

Pent up anger is so destructive..What a brilliant idea..Write it down, then burn it.. I wish Bella the best.

tnderhrt-

Taking a cue from your previous comment:

"Thank you, weed! As always!"

I just had to compose this for you:

Fill your pen

With ink of soy

Then this sequence

Please employ

Write on papers

Made for rolling

For benefits

That we're extolling

Wrap it 'round

An herbal blend

Lick the seam

And twist the end

Light it up

Inhale it deep

And your tension

Will not keep

Exhale smoke

Disperse your rage

Was that herb pot

Or was it sage

"Thank you, weed! As always!"

BTW, I really do like your poem. But sometimes my Muse insists on being heard.

CP, Thank you for the belly laugh and brilliant verse here!

I heard your Muse loud and clear! The "weed" I was referring to was weed as in tumblintumblweed, whom I call "weed"...however, I totally appreciate your verse as clever, witty, and for some, perhaps sound advice. I do not partake, myself, for I tend to get "stuck in stupid", which is no fun...however...have no objection to those who do...and love a few who subscribe to Mother Nature's provisions...thank you for your contribution to my work and entertainment! Have a great Easter!!!

ps. a brilliant write, your little verse, here, that would stand alone on its very own! Bravo!

I am so glad you took my tongue-in-cheek comment as it was intended. Some herbal remedies can be quite effective. But I feel humor is always beneficial.

Again, I didn't want to detract from your wonderful poem. It was well done, with an important message.

Peace. :{)

Dim Flaxenwick, I had to chuckle at your comment. I am a non-violent individual, and never owned a gun, but I have been pushed into a homicidal state of mind a time or two in my day. And nothing diffuses my rage like a good written rant full of feelings expressed freely and then turned to ash! It has saved a life or two for sure! Thanks!

I had no clue you wrote this for me M.... I found out by a comment that was left by a fellow hubber but yes I have learned that anger can destroy and I have destroyed myself within. I have also learned to write what I feel and let it go. I know many will be touched because of the relative emotion that we all tend to visit once here or there but I am greatly thankful to have you in my life although we may be miles apart and we haven't spoken verbally over a few weeks now!! My heart opens up to you thank you dear friend!!

smiles :)

bella, I thought perhaps you were pissed off about this post...and was just contemplating an email to you, for this piece was written with much love, I promise you!

I have been where you are...I identify with your emotions, more than I would like to, if truth be told...this piece came to me after I read a post on FB that you did about anger for lunch....I felt the intensity of your words, deeply, and remembered that I was taught to pour it all out on paper and burn it...that worked pretty well, at least it gave me some temporary relief from homicidal tendencies, anyways! lol...You are a strong woman, bella, and I admire you for your courage and strength! You are an "eagle"...don't let the turkeys get you down! Love ya girl!

Never angry at what people say or think of me or my writing I embrace it knowing that people are entitled to their own opinion. Yes lol FB I wrote that!! I appreciate all that you have said and done for me honestly you are a blessing sent from above. Between you Nikki, Lady tenaz, and Mr. Huff himself have gotten me through some rough patches! But we are all work in progress....

hugs and smooches :)

"Work in progress" indeed! If you just keep on keeping on, trying to do the "right thing", things will change, sometimes for the better, sometimes not...smile...but they will definitely get different! That is the one guarantee!!!

YOu have some great "powertools" in your tool chest, and you know how to use em, too! I shall stay tuned for your future adventures! I am grateful for you, as well!!!

Marsha your poetry made me think...What is the most horrible memory you possess?...Then i knew i had to write it down to release it from my psyche..This i have done only i didn't burn it..I published it and the release is healing. I want you to know that what you put on paper touches someone, and this time that someone was me. Thank you and God Bless You.

Tndr- Soon as I saw you were writing about an "explosion of pen and paper", there was no doubt you were honoring Bella. Her writing has such a raw, humanly personal touch. That can only come from the soul of someone living the words for sure. Ironic that such beauty from one person, is the result of the (mis guided) ugliness of another. I, (along with you and even bella i am sure), hope he one day finds something to ease his soul. -Paul
