Upon this Bough

Lighten Up

This is purely fictional and in no way represents my lifestyle or interest in any way, shape or form.  It was fun to write as this week has been filled with sadness and very "heavy" news from Japan.  I wrote several pieces in that frame of mind and decided to write something mindless with a dose of humor.  I hope you enjoy.  Thank you.

Pump me up and fill me full

Eyes that wear your virgin wool

I'll play dumb just for thou

I venture out upon this bough

--------------------------------------

Color your lines mostly bull

Your body honest, I feel the pull

I'll play teacher, you ask how

I venture out upon this bough

--------------------------------------

Talk is cheap and this one null

Between the ears score is dull

Advantage in no furrowed brow

I venture out upon this bough

--------------------------------------

Light the lesson in the lull

Where love is not what I mull

No lies or promises to avow

I venture out upon this bough

--------------------------------------

Hoist the mast and steer the hull

No pirate ship with flag or skull

Chart the course to here and now

I venture out upon this bough

---------------------------------------

I had a 'friend' tell me once she thought I 'need a man' in my life. That was funny since at the time she said it, I'd been divorced for 10 years and She was the woman dragging home losers like they were stray puppies. I like this poem.

Nicely done as always Amy. Thanks for the Eurythmics too!

I just had to preface this with an explanation. I didn't want my friends here to think I'd completely lost my powers of judgement, aka, my mind...I appreciate your comments, BobbiRant, and I would question the concept of 'friend' too, if one gave me that advise!!! Love is one thing, indiscriminate is dangerous.

Thank you, Micky Dee! That Annie Lennox is a wild eyed one!

This is just great...these lines are my favorite. Up and awesome.

Genna, you are truly so sweet. I'm really kind of surprised that this lightweight is getting any attention at all, much less, favorite lines. Thank you so much for giving me a boost, my friend. I love your "build-a-story" concept and I am anxious to see what transpires. The more who join in, the more "wow" the story will be.

Even when you are playing 'dumb' and writing what you call 'fluff', your magic doesn't disappoint. I mean, c'mon look at these lines and tell me ..

Hoist the mast and steer the hull

No pirate ship with flag or skull

Chart the course to here and now

I venture out upon this bough

sheer magic perfectly complimented by Eurythmics. love it.

If you are playing teacher, can I be the besotted student? I'll ask you how!

I'll play teacher, you ask how

I venture out upon this bough

Wow, you just blew me away, Docmo. You couldn't have made me happier! Really...thank you so much for your poetic words that validate me and my fluff. You made my week, and I'm sitting at the front of your class!

...well everytime you 'venture out' into a new poetic excursion it's always an exciting prospect indeed - all of your words - whether they be sublime or 'ridiculous' are appreciated - and respected - and thoroughly enjoyed - by someone like me!

As a footnote Amy: you will be proud of me - I was in the supermarket the other day (actually thinking about your words of wisdom) and I stepped it up and purchased a better blend of coffee - lol lol - Italiano Espresso with a strong bold flavor - and premium quality coffe it is!!!!! Gee - 'strong bold flavor' - just like the words you write!!!!!!

Awwww, epi, that is so sweet. I hope you enjoy your stepped up coffee and it is everything you hope it to be. I went this morning to buy my fav Latin American selection at Starbucks. I save my empty bags from the grocery store of Starbucks and take one with me each visit for a free cup! That way I feel like I'm justified in buying expensive coffee!!! Thank you for your kind, uplifting words, Colin.

Oh, Amy, every time I venture out upon this bough of mine, I realize that I am saver and happier in my bough. Then I come running back to enjoy life right in here where I allow only people who love me as I am, and I don’t even allow them to be permanently with me. They’ve got to go.... I need my space. I’ve read a lot between the lines here, but perhaps I’ve read my own feelings. Take care my pretty girlfriend. I’m still hoping that the right doors will open for you and me in order for us to have complete peace of mind and no worries whatsoever.

Amy Becherer profile image

Amy Becherer 5 years ago from St. Louis, MO Author

Well, Martie, my most beautiful (and you are gorgeous), I just keep getting up and getting kick down a little further each trip. Chapter 7 is looming closeby now. I hope you see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel you have been traversing. I am staying out of tunnels for now, but even seclusion isn't peaceful now. I guess I can say that "yes, it hurts. Therefore, I am alive".

I remain the optimist, despite the comments I make to you, Martie. I've always heard it said, "Be careful what you wish for". I still say I prefer life alone to living with a dictator. I love you, my friend. Please take care and remember I think of you everyday.

That news from Japan puts life in perspective for us all i guess Amy. Annie Lennox is also a great patriot of charities.

See what i mean, this is that well knitted together sort of stuff i could just not do. You sew the words together and they 'Slide' together when spoken out loud. Much respect.

Amy Becherer profile image

Amy Becherer 5 years ago from St. Louis, MO Author

Thank you for your kind and generous comments, nomoretrucks. In high school and until now, I found poetry difficult to understand and a bit too lofty for the likes of me. Now, I'm addicted, and have discovered here at the hub, it is whatever I want my expression of vision to be! This community of writers is a constant source of friendship and family to me.

Great poem --- powers of judgement should be thrown out the window anyway.... it is judgement that causes guilt and guilt binds us to our past... cool to see you can let your hair down in poetry LOL

I enjoyed this piece

Thank you, Neil. You are so correct about judgements and guilt. I'm better than I was on that scorecard, but not as evolved as I want to be. Baby steps. I enjoyed your thoughtful words.

I second Genna East's comment of up and awesome, those were my favorite lines as well. Sometimes we just need to let the silly's come out and let our muse's have their way and play havoc with our words of verse or rhyme, if we have any:-) I enjoyed your looseness here Amy, hope your days improved. Hugs

I can't help myself, saddlerider, you made me laugh with your always gentlemanly way of putting things. I love your phrase "I enjoyed your looseness here, Amy". You are first class all the way, Ken. And, yes, my friend, my days just got better with your visit. Hugs to you from a loose woman.

Even your humor is first class, Ken. Wink back at cha. Hey, I wanted to tell you to look up a new follower of mine by the name of Chriscwarner. He is a young college student that is so amazing. You will love his work, Ken. Please, when you get a chance....

I was emailed by our mutual friend GenaEast to hook up to Chriscwarner's writes and I did yesterday and left a comment in one of his poems. He is talented no doubt, I look forward to reading more of his.

If I haven't told you about another fine young writer aka BenWritings, you may want to read him as well, he is equally talented. Thank you my friend for keeping me informed.Wink right back at cha;)

Amy Becherer profile image

Ken, I emailed Genna, Fay, epi, sligobay and you, because I thought you would definitely appreciate his enormous talent. Since he's a newbie, I found him when I got a message that he was a new follower and when I read a few of his pieces, I thought it might be nice to let a few people know. He'll do fine without any help from the likes of me, but I was blown away by the amount of sophistication in his talent for one so young.

I woke up this morning asking myself how I might make the most of a brand new day. So I decided to begin with reading one of your hubs. I found this one. I also found the answer to my own question. "Be true to yourself today, all day" How is it that I came up with this?" - as I read your poem here, I could see how you speak and write with total truth. You are able to "free" your thoughts and let them fly. In doing so, you are living with integrity and passing it on to your readers. Congratulations! This is what I continue to see in you regardless of what you write. vocalcoach

vocalcoach, coming from you, the epitome of truth and commitment in being true to your ideals (as so aptly illustrated in your experience with the student named Edward), your comments are a supreme compliment. Your pieces enrich my life and I thank you for that, Audrey. I am grateful that you rested your angel wings here for a time.

Dear Gerry, Everytime I come to the hub I discover something I've missed or that is new. I've apparently got a one-track mind. All I think about is what I'm writing, which can be very shortsighted! Thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out and thanks for the more than welcome visit. Miss you.
