At times I know

I truly am at home

On Planet Earth.

I feel the worth

Of membership

Among my fellowman.

At times I do not

Slip between

The seamless threads

Of seamless family

But fill a place

Within its plan,

I leave a trace

Upon the strand I’m given.

And in those instants

I transcend

Both overhead and here below

As I become complete

More than I could know,

With inside and with outside

One again

And altogether

All together,

Even all alone.

There's still
A warm spot
Where we touched.

A lesser standard
Would not do!
I was enriched
That much by you!

My warrior -
Champion -
Hero. friend
Who's unafraid -
Who's brave -
And strong.

Each time we've met
I've surged toward you

Like moonbeams,
Toward the Earth;
I moved on mist,
And brought to you,

My magic moonlit song.

No second-hand life.

No hand-me-down

Experience.

Directly live

And breathe

Your own fresh air.

Anywhere you choose.

Everywhere you are

Is IT.

Nothing can withhold it

But yourself.

What's to grasp or to pursue?

That which stays

Beyond your reach

Cannot belong to you.

If it draws near,

There is no fear,

You needn't try,

To have it.

You simply DO.

         A moment

Of sheer beauty comes

      Unexpectedly,

Nor will it be detained

Moving on as quickly

        As it came.

It will not be sustained.

To try to hold or grasp it

       Is to spoil it.

Let it go in gratitude

And let its moment

Energize your soul.

Poet

The heart pours forth words,
When itself begs release.
'Tis good to express
Its needs;
But too incredible for words,
That clamouring needs
Concede to be contained
By quiet words.
Ah! There is probably a word
For that, too.

Revolving Door

You seemed to be a door
Appearing - suddenly,
Unlike all other doors
Before,
Or any that would ever be.

Cautious, careful, curious
Was my approach,
Wondering if I should,
And if it is good
To try the latch.

Then swiftly,
Unexpectedly -
The other side!

Amazed, I gaze around,
I glance behind.
There is no door!
There is no you!
I am alone!

Was I the door
That you passed through,
The other way?

If so,
Perhaps it helped you, too.

I had a choice of comment fields and so I chose the one below the feedback buttons but it does feel a bit like your revolving door. I like that one very much and had to smile when I saw your wonderful graphic with the ocean beyond.

This was yet another wonderful experience and I love the way you have everything laid out. It felt like selecting the little treasures on your whimsy beach.

Reading your poetry is an entire experience! The shelled nut made me laugh!

Loved all of it!

NOTE: THIS COMMENT WAS REALLY POSTED BY:

msorensson 68 minutes ago

Ohhhh you really make me cry...but not tonight since I have to finish a project and there is no more time...I will go and wash my face in cold water.

I love you and your poetry...

__________________________

And Melinda!! I appreciate your comment SO much!! That is so heartfelt and dear to me!! But read on -

______________________

This is unbelieveable! I seemed to have made an extra COMMENTS capsule.

So Melinda - I copied this one of yours which was posted in the one which was above the feedback buttons to post down here before deleting that extra wild-card COMMENTS capsule! So your comments are now appearing under the auspices of my name & profile pic. I tried several things to be able to keep it intact and consolidate the two comment fields, but to no avail. Of course, I couldn't have two comments boxes going, and with one in the wrong location besides.

I know you're very busy - but perhaps you might re-send yours which I copied, then I'll delete all this weird explanation!

I don't know how it happened. Some fluke of puter or human operator I guess. LOL. My apologies for all this mixup & again - thank you for the lovely comment! Sorry it made you cry - this has almost made me cry too!!

Hugs - Nellieanna

Oh, Alexandra - I'm so glad you mentioned about the "choice of comment fields" (so diplomatic you are!)- or else I might not have noticed till it became a worse mixup with more scattered comments. As it was, Melinda used the other one, which was of course the first one one would see. Try as I could, I was unable to lift & move her comment intact as it was to this comment field before deleting the odd capsule.

So since I came to reply to the comments, it's been feeling very much like a revolving door to me too.

Thank you for the comments about the revolving door poem & illustration. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the collection. And, yes, the shelled nut was a true comic picture of how I felt that day, - - - little knowing that years later I'd feel sort of like one again regarding the Comments capsules! LOL.

In truth, my computer has been acting like it has a mind of its own all day. So no telling what's amiss.

Thank you, LadyJane. Glad you liked it. It's among my favorites. I remember exactly the occasion & how I felt when I wrote it - and it fit! I think there is much insight in it, actually. It was one of those "Voila!" moments.

As always Nellieanna, you seem to be able to touch on so many aspects of life, and shine light on them with beautiful words.

I especially liked this one.

"There's still

A warm spot

Where we touched"

It's nice when you can know someone who can inspire such verses.

Yes it is, Christopher. My "someone" always did! :-)

I hope you have had someone in your life like that too.

I don't know about anyone else but I've had a Bitch of a week ! An argument with a Doctor who may know a lot about medicine but doesn't know Jack when it comes to dealing with people.

And just when I thought it couldn't get worse I learn a very good friend of mine has cancer....

Then I come to HubPages, not with any great enthusiasim but more out of habit I suppose and then I find you here ahead of me with your wonderful words and thoughts and all of a sudden I realise the world is still turning and life will go on as long as there is such simple beauty as a poem or a pretty picture to bring cheer.

Thanks Nellieanna....thanks for being you !

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 6 years ago from TEXAS Author

Now I am truly sad that you've had a hassle with the Doctor - but I can understand - they often seem intent on their quotas more than their patients. ;->

And I'm even more saddened that your friend has cancer. That's one of those things which weighs heavily on one.

But I am very happy if my little poems and pictures lifted your spirits a bit. Who knows but what I had the strong impetus to get a little collection gathered up and published just so it would be in the right place at the time to give your otherwise gloomy week a little lift. Makes me feel good.

Hugs...

Ah, Merlin - well put. The new day comes and life goes on - as it does so long as there is life. I say it's not the quantity of that miraculous non-'thing" called LIFE but its quality. And so frequently that is in our own hands. It never hurts to have another pair to help it along, either! I'm honored to lend them! Rage is ok within its moments,- but much prolonged beyond them, it begins to work against well-being. Nay-saying seldom produces yea-saying! hehe ;->

Martie - well - the limit of only one is fine but it's really not so cardinal a rule! But I understand. It makes the one chosen more special and valulable. And "A moment of sheer beauty" surely measures up! Thank you, dear Martie. I know that imprisoned creature all too well. I believe it needs out of there and into your own clear sunny light!

The lovely little poem that starts "No second-hand life" really reminded me of that lovely book by Peter London "No More Secondhand Art" - don't know if you know it. It's sub-titled "Awakeningnthe Artist Within" and the lines that I love from Chapter 1 are: "How breathytaking it is to start out on a journey into the unkinown. How much easier, more comfortable, and reassuring it is to stay where we are among familiar faces and places."

Everytime I come to your Hubs, Nellieanna, I feel as though I'm starting out on a journey, a breathtaking journey into beauty, an unknown and unique beauty.

Your words and images are so wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing them so generously with us. I feel honoured by your sharing.

Love and peace

Tony - What an honor to receive the kind praise & respect from someone I respect highly!

No, I haven't had the pleasure of reading "No More Secondhand Art"; but it definitely belongs on my wish list!! The lines you quoted sold me on it!

So true - it's exciting and takes one's breath to set out on the unknown, whether in art, within one's soul or on the path of life. Yes, much simpler to just rock along where one is, low-risk. But there's nothing like plunging in and making the unknown one's own and then refurbishing it as often as necessary! Sometimes "other factors" of consequence intervene - but in the core of one's being from where art and life must issue, those things have no real currency.

I truly appreciate your words of perception and appreciation, Tony!

In many cases, when I wrote many of the poems, I needed them in order to be able to step into my own self & check to be sure "I" still was "in there" & still thriving. That was seriously my major need in writing them.

I'm honored and humbled that they please you now.

Hugs - Nellieanna

Nikki - - Of course they relate somewhat to what you're going through and feeling. That's perfectly OK if you recall that it's your mind noting the connections! So remind yourself that is IS YOUR mind and YOUR connections having to do with it - as YOU see fit. He has nothing to do with it. You're in your driver's seat! Hugs, sweetie!

I have not forgotten you, how could I ever do that? I may linger awhile getting here, but alas your poetry beckons me from afar, whispering in my ear to come revisit and stay awhile and swim in your pool of water colors so brilliantly portrayed and married to such a tapestry of silky words.

I hang on every word as do others, one can almost hear ones heart beat as I dream awhile in your melody of verse. Taking me to heights to soar awhile with the clouds and eagles and come to earth so filled with a part of your soul.

Thank you Nellieanna for these lovely poems, they are absolutely brilliant. hugs

Well I would be quite sad if you'd forgotten me, kind Ken. But what could I - should I - or would I - do about it if you had? I wouldn't want to have to force you to! LOL.

So - I'm ever so pleased that my poetry beckoned you! I hope & am sure that your 'afar' was pleasant as well!

It's most gratifying that my poems ring with a familiar heart beat, like a tuning fork, perhaps.

But your description of the effect is so gorgeous, you need to write a poem about it yourself!!

I'm truly pleased that you were pleased by the visit! Thank you, my friend!! You're always welcome here!

Nellianna, First, Yes. I love your work. Very, very nice. Second. The illustrations are lovely. Are they your own creation? very creative stuff. Third, the byline _____@ w/your name. Is that the sign for copyright? Are these poems from a book?

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 6 years ago from TEXAS Author

agaglia - thank you for the compliments! And thank you for inquiring about the originality of my stuff. The poems on my poetry hubs are all my own original work and are taken directly from the handwitten notebooks I gathered over the years as I wrote them and inserted them into the notebooks.

Gradually I'm transcribing them to my computer for easier indexing to provide for locating any one of them I may want without the need of searching 8 or so thick notebooks! Haha!

That's not @ - it is the © copyright mark.

Most of my illustrations are my original work & are labeled accordingly, whether paintings, pencil sketches, other art media, my own photography or my own graphics. If I use others' works for illustration, I label it accordingly.

I'd be honored if you borrowed it, but when you do, please be sure to include my copyright and name as its author! I say this because I have been suspected of taking my own verse when apparantly someone had found it on my website and published it as theirs or without giving me credit, - then when I published it, I was the suspect. I will appreciate that detail if you borrow it, my dear.

Thank you for the nice compliment!
