Vicky, Seth, & Aaron

Updated on May 14, 2012

“Is this the last box?” Jade asked carrying a box labeled ‘Kitchen’

“Yeah it’s the last one.” I called from the bedroom

“It doesn’t look like a lot.” Jade H commented

“No because I packed lite. And that means more shopping tomorrow…”

We all cheered as someone knocked on my door. I opened it to see Dannie holding a basket of muffins and a silver thermos.

“Sorry I’m late, but I brought dessert.” She smiled

Jade H brought a large towel and spread it out in what would be my living and dining room. Dannie handed us cups and poured hot chocolate. While we ate I stared at the bare white walls, light wooden cabinets, and white counters. ‘I have to redecorate…’ I thought to myself.

“I can’t believe Ash got this place for me.” I commented

“He has his connections. He helped me restore my house and found Jade, Talon, and Drake their homes.” Jade H paused

“He takes care of his children and wifey…” Jade continued

“But wait, if we’re all your children… then oh my god… you’re dating your son!” I laughed

“Funny… Talon and I did realize it. So it’s nothing new…” Jade H smirked

By midnight, the girls left and I set up my hammock in my new bedroom. Someone had to be here for the furniture delivery from Ikea. As I stretched the large white fabric from the north wall out, I created a small vine tree to hold the other end up.

I began to imagine calling this place ‘Home’, but also missed my old home. Before moving, I lived in Washington D.C. on Vermont Avenue. My shop was near Franklin Park. There was a small community of fairies, but there were also a lot of were-animals and demons.

The mortals in town knew we existed after we came forward in a span of ten years. Surprisingly they accepted us, compared to other parts of the country, where we were run out of town. Some of them came here, others found new homes elsewhere.

I really couldn’t complain, business was booming and no one was afraid of us. It was amazing, but then everything became flawed and broken after meeting my now ex-boyfriend Seth; he was a demon.

We had met in the summer of ’05 when I first opened ‘Vicky’s Shoppe’. I had purchased a small store front and soon shelves were filled with herbal shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and burning sage. The walls were white with a multi-colored floral boarder going around near the ceiling. Brown shelves stand on both the right and left with a white counter across from the entrance.

I had closed up for the night when I noticed a tall shadow appeared next to mine on the sidewalk. Slowly I turned to see Seth leaning up against the street lamp; I leaped into the air.

“Hey V; I’m sorry I scared you.” He smiled up at me flashing his fangs

“Please don’t ever do that again.” I replied as my feet met the sidewalk

He stood 5”8, dark brown hair and eyes that had a gold tint; indicating he was a demon. He wore a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers. To us girls he definitely had that “bad boy” image which we all secretly went wild for. There was a long silence; we just stared at each other. I stood there wearing a dark blue tank top, long white layered skirt, and black flip flops.

“So how was the grand opening?” He asked

“It was amazing. Heather and I couldn’t believe the turn out. Hopefully word will spread and we’ll have repeat customers.” I replied

“Where is your partner in crime?”

“I sent her to the bank while I cleaned and closed up.”

“Are you doing anything tonight?”

“I promised Heather we’d go to Gwen’s pub to celebrate.”

“What about tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow I’m free.”

“Great how about we go for dinner and a walk through the park?”

“That sounds good. Is seven ok?”

“Perfect; I’ll meet you here at seven.”

He waved and flashed out of sight, when I sensed someone close by.

“Hi Heather...” I said with a smile

I watched a small water droplet appear in front of me. It slowly took the form of a woman. She stood 5”6, fair complexion like me, dark blue hair and brown eyes. She wore a gray t-shirt, jean shorts, and flip flops.

Heather was a water sprite, me the third generation of flower fairies.

“So you have a date with Mr. tall, dark, and mysterious?” She asked

“It’s not a date…” I sighed

“Sure it isn’t. Why are your cheeks turning red?”

“Let’s go…”

We walked two blocks to Gwen’s Pub. Gwen, a fire fairy, had taken over her parents business. She brought in new customers, some mortals, but mostly fairies. Dark wood lined the floor, black high top tables had flowers painted on top with vines wrapping around the base; with matching chairs.

The dark wooden bar had a polished shine with numerous shelves filled with bottles; along with black bar stools surrounding it. Gwen was 5”5, long dark red hair and blue eyes. She wore a pair of black slacks, studded belt, and ‘Edward Scissorhands’ t-shirt with black boots.

“Welcome ladies and congratulations Ms. Star on your new venture.” She smiled as we took a seat at the bar.

“Thanks Gwen; it was a good first day.” I replied

“Great; now what can I get for you two tonight?”

“Two cosmopolitans and hamburgers with fries please…” Heather continued

“I’ll be back with your drinks.”

Heather turned to me with a smile on her face.

“So where is he taking you tomorrow?”

“We’re going out to dinner and a walk through the park.”

“How romantic; what happened to the other girl he was dating? Wasn’t she a demon too?”

“Yeah; I heard he caught her cheating with a shifter. And he ran them out of town.”

Gwen returned with our drinks and we made a toast. “To an awesome grand opening and much more…” By midnight I had walked home and made my way inside.

The moon light shined on the dark red bricks and white door with silver knob. It then hit the light wood floor that ran throughout the house except my bedroom and bathroom. Upstairs a dark blue carpet runner creates pathways to each room.

My room had a mural of a garden covered the once white walls. The dark wooden furniture, full sized four post bed complimented the dark green carpet. I opened my wardrobe and changed into a long white nightgown. I climbed underneath the off-white sheets and comforter and fell asleep.

Chapter 2

I was woken up by someone knocking my door. “The furniture…” I gasped and conjured my blue silk robe into my hand. As I slipped it on, I opened the door to see Ash and someone from Ikea. He stood the same height as Ash, 6”0. His dark blue eyes turned lighter in the sunlight, along with his short brown hair. He wore a pair of jeans and ‘Ikea’ shirt.

“I hope I didn’t wake you Vicky…” Ash began with a smile

“No. I wasn’t expecting you for another hour.” I replied with a yawn

“I called in some favors, Vicky this is my friend Aaron. Aaron this is Vicky.” Ash continued

“It’s nice to meet you Aaron.” I extended my hand

“Same here Vicky.” He smiled

I sensed magic around him, but couldn’t put my finger on it. I knew some warlocks, wizards, and witches hunted us for our blood, but I knew Ash wouldn’t let that happen.

“So let’s get started.” Ash said

“Could you start with the bedroom furniture and work our way out?” I asked

“Sure.”

Aaron and Ash had brought in two boxes of bookshelves when, Dannie and Jade arrived. The boys stopped working and I smiled.

“I hope we’re not interrupting anything.” Dannie began

“No, just putting my men to work.” I laughed

“We brought you a change of clothes.” Jade handed me a ‘Hot Topic’ bag

“Thank you, I’ll be right out. And we can get out of Aaron and Ash’s way.”

They followed me to my room; Jade waved her hand shutting the door behind us.

“Thanks for the clothes.” I smiled

I had borrowed Jade H’s black pajama bottoms and tank top. I put them in the bag and put on my new white skull and red rose t-shirt with black skirt and flip flops.

“So Aaron huh? I wonder where Ash found him.” Jade smirked

“He works for Ikea, he and Ash are helping bring in my new furniture.” I replied

“Oh… is that it? I thought Ash might be up to something again.” Dannie laughed

“Ok… don’t know what the hell you’re going on about. Can we go shopping please?” I asked

“Of course…” They said together.

We left in Dannie’s car, Ash and Aaron stayed behind to put everything together. I couldn’t help but stare at Aaron. He was handsome, but once we arrived at the mall, I became distracted by the ‘Sale’ signs.

“That friend of Ash’s definitely looked cute.” Dannie commented

We had met up with Jade H at Sears looking at bed sheets and pillows.

“Yea, he was a piece of hot eye candy.” I laughed

“Maybe Ash’s knows something…” Jade H

“We don’t yet…” Jade continued

“What do you mean?” I asked feeling curious

“Ash has the ability to see into the future. He has premonitions either by touching something or it comes to him in his dreams. Myra has similar powers by using her tarot cards or stones.” Dannie continued

I had picked out dark green and off-white sheets and two new pillows. We checked out and went to the food court. As we sat down at a table with burgers we began eating.

“I didn’t realize Ash was that powerful.” I commented

“He is, but it’s rare…” Jade H paused

“We see his powers.” Jade continued

“So he predicted all your relationships?” I asked

“Yeah, but Jade and I had a feeling about Talon. Once the relationship began we knew what it meant.” Jade H replied

“Myra knew Aiden was sent to help my father begin to accept mortals into his life again. Ash also knew. So maybe he’s trying to tell you something about Aaron.” Dannie added

“Maybe…”

An hour later we came back to my apartment to see Aaron getting into his truck. I handed Dannie my keys and the girls went inside. I walked up to the large ‘Ikea’ truck and tapped on the window. He rolled down the window and smiled.

“Hey what’s up?” He asked

“Finished already? You work pretty fast.” I smiled

“I can do this in my sleep.”

“Thanks for coming and putting everything together for me.”

“You’re welcome. “

I waved as he pulled away and then went inside to join the girls.

************

The next night I stood before my full length mirror that hung on my door. Heather was sitting on my bed while I modeled my outfit. I wore a white halter dress with black flats. My dark purple hair was lose and touched my shoulders.

“Yesterday you had black hair and today its purple. You change it every week.” She commented

“I got bored… besides it’s a family secret.”

“You look great. Are you ready?”

“Yeah I’ll see you later.”

I flashed to my shop to see him holding a red rose. He changed into a black buttoned short sleeve shirt, dark blue jeans, and flip flops.

“Hey V; you look beautiful.” He smiled handing me the rose

The petals felt soft against my nose as I smelled its sweet scent.

“Hey Seth; Thank you for the rose...”

“Yeah let’s go.”

He took me to a small café with outdoor seating. A white table cloth covered the black metal table, with two metal chairs on either side; plus a small lit candle in a glass. A waitress took our orders and we sat and talked.

“So you moved out when you were eighteen?” I asked

“Yeah; living with parents who were demons, I couldn’t take it. They ran a local street gang who terrorized the entire city. My father left my mom when I was ten, so she turned to me to lead everyone and I refused. So I came here to start over. What about your family?” He replied

“My parents live in Hawaii; I came out here after my Grandmother passed away, she left me the house and money for the store front. She taught me how to make all the shampoos, conditioners, and lotions. I like being out on my own, it’s freeing you know?”

“Yeah I know the feeling.”

After an amazing dinner we walked through Franklin Park and found a nice spot to look up at the stars. He took my hand into his, chills ran up my spine. We sat up and our eyes met, I looked down, but his finger lifted my chin.

His soft lips gently pressed against mine and I felt like I was melting. My tongue entered his mouth and danced with his. His hands pulled me closer to him. We stopped and hugged tightly. “I’d better get home, busy day tomorrow.” I whispered

“Alright I’ll take you home.”

He helped me to my feet and he walked me home. We kissed and I went inside and up to my room. I was surprised to see a large bouquet of roses on my bed. I conjured a crystal vase filled half way with water and placed the roses on my window sill.

*************

I walked in to see the girls laughing, but they stopped and stared at me.

“Nothing happened… I thanked him for his help. Now can I redecorate in peace please?” I asked

“No problem, we have to open the lounge anyway. Call us if you need us.” Dannie smiled

They left while I opened a box labeled ‘Music’ and took out my speakers and IPod. I began playing Apocalyptica and held my palm out. A small white orb appeared and I threw it at the bookshelves turning them black with a crescent moon and stars on the side. I turned the kitchen table, cabinets, and chairs dark brown; I kept the cushions white.

I stood back and admired my work when I felt someone was behind me. I turned to see Ash sitting on my new brown leather couch.

“Hey Ash what’s up?” I asked sitting beside him

“I just wanted to make sure you’re settled in. Do you need anything?” He replied

“Once everything is unpacked I’ll finally call this place home.”

“Good. I know it wasn’t easy leaving so quickly.”

“It wasn’t…”

***********

Five months passed, Seth treated me like a goddess. He’d send me flowers ‘Just because’ the cards would read. I had a garden in my backyard filled with all his gifts.

One Friday night Gwen had stopped in for a bottle of my new lavender lotion.

“I’m surprised you were able to get a Friday off from the bar.” I commented

“I hired some new slaves and decided to take a little vacation.”

“Good for you…”

“So how’s your boyfriend?”

“Amazing; he’s treating me very good.”

“I’m glad; remember if he does anything stupid…”

“I know, Heather already told me the same thing.”

“Anyway I’d better go. Don’t work too hard.”

She left and Heather walked in with her new boyfriend, a shifter, named Ben. He was her height, tan complexion, blue eyes, and short dirty blond hair.

“Hey you two love birds what’s up?” I asked

“Not much; are you closing up soon?” Heather replied

“We’re going to the movies want to come with us?” Ben continued

“Sure, I know Seth and I were supposed to go. Guess we’ll make it a double date.”

“Cool.” Heather smiled

He walked in and I gave him a hug.

“Perfect timing; we’re joining Heather and Ben at the movies is that ok?”

“I thought it was just going to be you and me tonight.” He replied

“C’mon it’ll be fun.”

Chapter 3

His eyes widened and he gripped my arms tightly. At first I was shocked, but the look in his eyes he was being serious.

“Seth you’re hurting me.” I whispered

“I’m so sorry babe. I was hoping it would just be the two of us tonight, but next time check with me before hand.” He smiled

Ben and Heather walked outside as I cleaned up and then locked the doors. Later on that night Heather walked me home.

“What was that all about?” She asked

“I don’t know. This is the first time he’s flipped out about anything.”

“I hope he doesn’t do it again.”

“Me too…”

**********

I went into work the next night and was surprised to see Aaron sitting at the bar with Aiden and Ryan. I stopped by the time clock and stared. He looked so handsome and yet I was afraid. A flood of ‘what ifs’ flowed into my mind and I froze.

“Vicky… V… Earth to V…” A voice called

“Oh Jade, I’m sorry.” I replied coming back to reality

“You ok? Or you just distracted by our newest patron?” She asked with a smirk

“I’m fine. I just wasn’t expecting to see him again.”

“He’s new to the area and I thought it would be good for him to get out.”

I couldn’t argue with her on that point. When I first came here it did feel good to get out of the house.

“Hey boys what can I get for you tonight?” I asked as I came behind the bar

“Three Sam Adams please…” Ryan smiled

“Sure.” I replied and turned to grab three out of the cooler

I conjured a vine and whipped off each cap and then started Ryan’s tab.

“Would you like anything to eat?” I asked

“Not right now, but we’ll holler if we change our minds.” Aaron replied

“Alright, just give a shout if you need another round.”

I went into the office and sat down at the desk, taking deep breaths in and out. Jade H appeared in the doorway.

“Hey what’s wrong V?” She asked

“I’m not sure. I saw Aaron at the bar and all of a sudden there are butterflies in my stomach, but then I become afraid.” I replied

She sat down beside me and waved her hand shutting the office door.

“This has to do with what happened when you left home doesn’t it?”

“It’s a huge part of it. Aaron seems so nice and funny, but then all the bad memories of home creep in. I’m having a hard time opening up again, especially around guys.”

“I know it’s been rough. But you know we take care of our own. And if someone got rough, well you know what will happen.” She began

“You’re right you and Ash would do anything for us.”

“Come back out when you’re ready. I’ll take over the bar.”

Ten minutes passed and I joined her behind the bar.

“Are you sure?” She asked

“Yeah I’ll be ok.” I nodded

She stayed close by while I got another round for Ryan, Aiden, and Aaron. An hour passed and business became steady. I conjured a stool made of vines.

“Long day V?” Aaron asked

“Yeah…” I replied cracking my neck

“You cut people off when they had too much. I wish I could do that with my customers.”

I laughed, “It really makes me wonder. What are they going to do with all that stuff?”

“Exactly…” He chuckled

“Alright everyone we are closing up early. We are going to celebrate Jade’s birthday at the lake. So let’s clean up and get going.” Jade announced

I stood up and began putting glasses into the dishwasher. Dannie had begun to pack a large cooler with ice, along with some mixed drinks and beers. Jade cleaned the coffee tables, while Jade H helped Marcus and Victor with the kitchen.

Soon we arrived and made a huge bonfire and laid out blankets along with my speakers and IPod. Everyone was sitting, talking, and drinking enjoying the cool night. I sat where the lake met the beach staring up at the full moon.

“Beautiful isn’t it?” Aaron commented sitting beside me

“It is.” I replied

“You’re a flower fairy?”

“I am, the third generation of my family. And you’re a shifter.”

“How did you…”

“You’re the only one without a car.”

“I do own a restored fifty-six Chevy. But when you can become any animal, it saves on gas.”

I laughed, “Good point…” I learned he originally lived in Seattle. His parents had retired to Florida; his sister still owns their house. She opened a popular bakery and was featured on a local news broadcast. As we sat and talked my fear slowly disappeared, being carried away into the lake. I realized leaving was the best decision, I hated what I had become back home.

**************

Three years passed and he stopped sending flowers. He had become a full-fledged demon, driven by hate and instilling fear into anyone who looked at him or me. I went from goddess to punching bag in one year.

It became so hard to hide the black eyes and bruises. I had become paranoid and was constantly looking over my shoulder. One night, in July, Heather convinced me to end it.

I know in the beginning everything was great. But look at what he did to you? You’ve changed. She began

I know. And I hate what he’s done to me. I have to end it.” I replied

I arranged to meet him in the park around ten. I was sitting on a bench, wearing my blue sundress and silver flip flops. My red hair was tied back into a ponytail. He appeared beside me, dressed in black t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers.

“Hey beautiful what’s wrong?” He asked

“Seth, it’s over. I’m done being your punching bag; I’m done.”

“What… but V… I”

“You heard me it’s over…”

I got up, he grabbed my wrist. He pulled me back down beside him.

“No one walks away from me that easy.” He growled

“I do…”

I used my free hand and conjured a thorn whip. As I swung it over my head, his gripped loosened and I sprung to my feet. The thorns had cut his face, blood dripped down his cheeks. He growled and got to his feet, I threw my whip transforming it to rope. He fell to the ground squirming, but that only caused more pain from the thorns.

Chapter 4

“Let me go…” He growled

“No. And I wouldn’t try moving. Remember I can make those thorns grow.” I replied

Gwen appeared beside me “They’re on their way.” She whispered. I waved my hand and pinned him to a large tree. Gwen then conjured a fire ball and lit my rope on fire. She had arranged for some were-bears, who were also police officers, to teach him a “lesson”. We left and met up with Heather and Ben at my house.

“Is everything ready?” Gwen asked

“Yeah; the movers are coming tomorrow, furniture will be sold. Everything else will be put in storage until you get settled.” Heather replied

“Where are you going to go? What about the shop?” Ben asked

“The house is going to be sold and Heather will have to close the shop. It has to be this way; he can’t know where I’ve gone. Once I’m settled I’ll send for my stuff and hopefully you all can visit.” I replied

“Yeah we’d love to. Keep in touch ok?” Heather asked

I hugged them and flashed to the bus station.

Walking up the three black steps, I was greeted by an elderly woman with short white hair and blue eyes. She was a fairy, a medicine woman, from what I sensed. I walked towards the back and sat down on the large gray seats.

As the bus pulled away from the gate I waved ‘goodbye’ to my home and friends. An hour later I woke up to see my mother sitting beside me. She was my height, bronze complexion, light blue hair, and brown eyes. She wore a black tube dress that covered her bare feet.

“Oh mom; what are you doing here?” I asked hugging her

“Heather called me and I wanted to make sure you were ok.” She replied

“I’m better now. Seth was pure evil and I couldn’t see that.”

Tears fell down my cheeks as I laid my head in her lap. Her fingers began running through my hair slowly.

“You didn’t know love. But it’s all over now and you’re… where are you going?”

“I don’t know. Do you have any suggestions?”

“Keep heading north for another three hours. Your father and I saw two girls had opened a bar serving both supernatural and mortal communities.”

“Alright; hopefully I can find it. Thanks mom, say hi to dad for me.”

I hugged her tightly and she disappeared. I yawned and fell back asleep. The next morning I woke up to see we had arrived in the state mom had talked about. It looked beautiful, all the flowers and trees were in bloom. I got up, stretched and went into the bathroom.

The small round light lit up the silver sink and toilet. My bruises had healed and I was beginning to like my reflection again. I raised my right hand, tapping the mirror with my index finger. Cherry blossom petals shot out from the mirror surrounding me like a tornado.

My complexion soon matched my mother’s, while my hair turned dark pink. I walked out of the bathroom, just as the bus continued into town.

************

We joined everyone around the fire, Talon and Jade brought over a black frosted cake with red hearts; along with plates and utensils. As we were eating, I sensed someone or something coming towards us.

“You feel that?” I asked my wings unfolded quickly

“Yeah, maybe we should…” Jade paused

“Get out of here.” Jade H continued

“No, we’re powerful enough to stand our ground.” Dannie interrupted

“She’s right.” Ryan chimed in

“V!” Aaron shouted tackling me to the ground

He fell on top of me, as something flew over us. Our eyes met, I felt my cheeks turning red.

“Are you ok?” He asked

“Yeah… my hero…” I replied

I flashed to my feet to see a figure floating above the lake. The ‘Jades’ stepped up and pulled the figure closer with their powers. As the figure landed on its feet, my eyes lit up to see Heather. But she was hurt; cuts and bruises covered her face, arms, and legs. Her purple dress was torn and looked scorched by fire.

“Heather... what are you doing here?” I asked kneeling beside her

“We couldn’t stop…him… he…knows…V…..” She replied in between breaths

“What happened to Gwen and Ben?”

Jade H brought over a bottle of water and handed it to Heather.

“Let’s go back to my house and we can discuss this further.” Jade H suggested

We packed up everything and left the lake for Jade H’s house. I sat next to Heather on the couch, the ‘Jades’ were on my right, while everyone else was seated in a semi-circle with the dining room chairs.

“V… who is she?” Jade asked

“Everyone this is Heather. These are my friends, Jade H, Jade, Dannie, Aiden, Ryan, Talon, and Aaron. Heather is a friend from home, a water sprite. “I replied and then pointed everyone out to Heather

“It’s nice to meet you all. But I was hoping it would be under better circumstances.” Heather began slowly; “Seth knows you’re here. He hired two were-panthers to follow you.”

“How long do you think it’ll take him? We defeated those were-panthers…” Jade paused

“They were warned not to mess with us.” Jade H continued

“Where are Ben and Gwen?” I asked

“They’re at a hotel downtown. I told them I’d call once I was safe. Gwen….” Heather replied

Gwen and Ben appeared in the middle of our circle. Gwen was dressed in jean shorts and white t-shirt, while Ben wore black cargo shorts and red t-shirt. I got up and hugged them both.

“I’m sorry …” I whispered

“Don’t be, your mom told us where to find you.” Gwen replied

After I introduced Gwen and Ben, I went outside to get some air. Everyone was coming up with strategy to prepare for Seth’s attack. As I sat down on the first step, I felt a hand upon my shoulder. I looked up to see Aaron sitting beside me.

“What happened the night you left home?” He asked

“I knew this would come up eventually…” I replied with a sigh; “Seth was abusive and I was blinded by love to see he was evil. He’d apologize, I’d forgive him, and it was a vicious cycle. Heather convinced me to end it. He tried to hurt me, when I told him it was over, but I fought him. Plus Gwen had some were-bears to teach him a lesson.”

“And after all that he still wants you?”

“Yeah; he’s obsessed. Wow I’ve only told the Jades that story…”

He smiled as he took my hand into his. I heard the front door open and turned to see the ‘Jades’ standing in the doorway. I got up and walked towards them, Aaron followed.

“Come back inside…” Jade began

“We have a plan.” Jade H continued

We joined everyone and sat down on the couch.

“From what Heather told us, Seth should be here either tonight or tomorrow. We should all be on guard and if he arrives then call one of us. From there we’ll deal with him.” Jade H

“It’s me he wants. He won’t stop until I either get back together with him or he kills me.” I interrupted

“We won’t let that happen.” Ash said as he appeared in the living room entrance way

He wore a black t-shirt, black pants, and biker boots; beneath his long leather coat.

“Don’t close the lounge tomorrow tonight Jade. I don’t think he’d do anything in public.” He continued

“Too many witnesses and so many to defend her if he tried.” Dannie chimed in

After an hour, it was decided that I’d stay with Jade H. Ash had a feeling my apartment wasn’t safe, not until Seth was gone for good. Everyone had left, but Aaron joined me in the kitchen, while Jade and Talon went to hunt for their meals. I poured myself a glass of wine and sat down at the table.

“Thanks for keeping me company. I didn’t want to be alone, while Jade and Talon went out.” I smiled

“It’s no problem. I know this guy is obsessed with you, but did he drink your blood?” He asked

“Never; and I know the effects it has on other supernatural beings.”

I got up and went upstairs and went into the bathroom, slamming the door behind me. His voice echoed throughout the house, “V… I’m sorry…” As I leaned up against the door, the black tile felt cool beneath my feet. I began to think about Seth, before he became a monster.

**********

We were sitting in my living room watching a movie. I was lying on top of him, his arms wrapped around me tightly.

“Did you get the daisies I sent?” He asked

“Yeah, but I’ll have to build a greenhouse if you keep sending me more.” I laughed

“Alright… I’ll keep it to anniversaries.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, but I can’t help it V. You’re amazing.”

I felt my cheeks turning red. I snuggled my head against his chest.

************

I came out hearing Talon and Jade saying goodbye to Aaron. I immediately ran downstairs and out the door.

“Aaron… wait…” I shouted

He was half way down the driveway, but walked back up to me. We stood in silence, but then something pushed me into his arms and kissed him. I felt a jolt of lightning shoot through my body as our lips touched. His tongue began twirling with mine as I pulled him closer to me. Slowly we stopped and pressed our foreheads together.

“I’m sorry that I snapped at you…” I whispered

“It’s alright. I never should’ve asked in the first place…” He replied

I hugged him tightly, feeling so renewed and in control. Slowly I heard the sound of clapping and I turned to see Talon and Jade applauding.

It’s about time…” Jade’s voice echoed in my head

Chapter 5

The next morning I woke up to see Jade H had left me a pair of jean shorts, dark pink t-shirt and black flip flops. I went upstairs and into the bathroom, to shower. The warm water felt good as I stepped beneath the showerhead. As I washed my hair, the water turned pink and I watched my hair turn dark blue.

Ten minutes later I was staring at my reflection in the mirror that hung above the black marble counter. I tied the black towel around me tightly. All of bruises had healed and most supernatural beings heal faster than mortals. I still felt a little sore, but I knew that would stop soon.

“It’s nice to see the old you coming back.” A voice said

I turned to see Heather standing behind me, holding my change of clothes.

“Yeah it does feel good. What brings you here?” I replied

“Gwen, Ben, and I wanted to get you out of the house. You have to show us around, you know, a grand tour?”

She handed me the clothes and I got dressed. We flashed to the ‘Luna Inn’ to see Gwen and Ben waiting for us. We began walking down the street and I pointed out some shops and cafés.

“What happened back home?” I asked

“He was arrested and spent a six months in jail. From what my friend Pete told me, he shut down and did what he was told. But he did get a visit from his mother; I’m guessing she influenced him to get revenge.” Gwen replied

“After he got out, he showed up after the moves had taken the furniture. Gwen and I were surprised he showed up. “Heather continued

“It got a little rough between ice swords, fireballs, and energy balls.” Ben added

“Before he ran off, he was set on finding you. We knew that we had to get to you first before he came around here.” Gwen smiled putting her arm around me

“Thanks guys. Why don’t you come by the lounge tonight? I think you might be surprised with how far the Jades have come.” I suggested

“Sure. Can’t stay locked up in the room all night.” Heather laughed.

That night, Heather, Ben, and Gwen’s jaws dropped when they walked into the lounge. There were so many supernatural beings. I went and clocked in, then joined Jade H behind the bar. I noticed Dannie brought my friends over to the middle section of couches.

“V… could we get a round of Ying Lings?” Gwen asked

“Coming up…” I replied

Hours passed and I went out back to get some air. I stared up at the crescent moon as Aaron appeared beside me.

“Hey…” He began

“Hi…” I replied feeling my cheeks turning red

I began remembering kissing him outside of Jade H’s house. It was amazing, feeling the lighting strike my entire body.

“Would you want to go out to dinner tomorrow night?” He asked

“I’d like that.” I replied

“Great. I’ll pick you up at Jade’s house around seven?”

“Sounds good; at least I’ll have some protection.”

He took me into his arms and hugged me tightly. We both went back inside and I was happy to see Ben, Heather, and Gwen talking with Ash and Drake.

“What’s he doing out of hiding?” I asked Jade as she came out of the kitchen with a tray of food floating behind her.

“His latest girl dumped him. So he’s behaving himself…for now. The good thing is he’s being nice, so enjoy it while it lasts.” She replied

“Yeah; I still remember the girl chaser, who wouldn’t stop until he left with someone.”

The rest of the night went smoothly. By closing, Gwen took me back to Jade H’s house. As we walked inside, Jade had left a note hanging on the railing. “You’re more than welcome to use the guest room. I’m sure the bed is more comfortable than the couch. –Jade

“How are you holding up V?” She asked

“I’m alright. Aaron is taking me out to dinner tomorrow night.” I replied

“He seems really nice.”

We talk for hours and by two I made my way into the guest room.

The next night I was sitting at Jade’s vanity staring at a giant eye shadow pallet and other make-up products. Jade, Heather and Gwen were sitting on the bed looking over possible outfits to wear.

“Just to be clear, you’re keeping the blue hair right?” Heather asked

“Yeah, I’m not going to change it now.” I laughed

“She would change her hair color every week.” Gwen commented to Jade

“I’ve noticed since we met.” Jade smiled

I reached for a bottle of foundation and my hand began to shake.

“What’s wrong?” Gwen asked

“Pre-dating jitters…” I replied

“Let’s help her out girls.” Jade suggested

I was led over to her full length mirror and my eyes widened. I wore a black and white floral patterned dress, and black sandals. My make-up matched the dress while my hair was loose. I jumped when I heard the doorbell ring. Jade left the room and went down stairs, we followed. She opened the door to Aaron, who was dressed in a black polo shirt, blue jeans, and black flip flops.

“Hey V, you look beautiful.” He smiled

“Hey Aaron, thank you...” I replied as I came downstairs.

“Are you ready to go?” He asked

“Yeah; see you girls later.”

He opened the door to his car and I slid onto the white and blue leather seat. As we pulled away I noticed a large picnic basket and red checkered blanket lying on top of it.

“Where are we going?” I asked

“You’ll see…”

Chapter 6

We had come back to the lake. I helped him lay out the blanket, and then I sat down as he emptied the basket. I was amazed to see spaghetti and meat balls in two round containers, two salads, garlic bread, and a bottle of wine.

“You cook? Impressive…” I commented

“Yeah; it’s one of my hobbies outside of selling furniture.” He replied

He opened the wine and took out two goblets.

“This is really nice Aaron.”

“Thanks V.”

“Who taught you how to cook?”

“My sister taught me a few things before I headed off to college. From there I taught myself.”

“Yeah my Grandmother taught me how to make lotions, shampoos, and conditioners. And from there I opened my shop. My mom passed down her green thumb talent.”

“Can I see?”

“Sure. “

I held out my hand, palm up, aimed at the ground. Slowly a small green vine rose from the ground, slithering like a snake. Rose buds appeared and bloomed, soon there was a small rose bush in front of us.

“Wow…”

“Thank you. It took years of practice before I learned to control it. My mom was a little more patient than my dad and allowed me to express myself. Which meant our house got covered with hibiscus flowers.”

He laughed, “I can only imagine.”

“I’m sure morphing into any animal is way more fun.”

“Imagine showing up to your first day of first grade as a tiger.”

“Touché… but you must have looked so cute.”

I began rubbing the top of his head; he pulled me down on top of him. We laughed, but then our eyes met. I leaned down and kissed his soft lips, feeling the spark once again, but I stopped. Someone or something was close by.

“Did you feel that?” I asked

“What… what’s wrong?” He replied looking confused

I got up and looked around the dark woods. A whistling noise echoed behind me, I put my hand up and caught a dagger by its handle. I threw it on the ground as Aaron shifted into a grey timber wolf. “Jade… Aaron and I could use some help at the lake…” I thought hoping they’d hear it.

“How romantic…” A voice commented

“Seth…” I whispered

“You didn’t tell me you were moving babe. I was wondering what happened to you after that night.” He replied appearing in front of me.

“No, you just hired to were-panthers to find out for you.” I replied

Aaron got in between us, but Seth waved his hand sending him flying into darkness. While I was distracted, Seth pinned me to a tree.

“Come home V… you belong to me.” He began

“No I don’t.” I growled

I freed my right hand and blew a stun powder into his eye. I flashed and appeared behind him. Aaron came up beside still in his wolf form. Suddenly he began attacking Seth, biting and clawing, but he was thrown off. He got to his feet and looked at me and him.

“I never did like shifters…” Seth commented

He sent Aaron flying and pinned him to a tree. Aaron tried to move, but it only caused more pressure against his body and the tree.

“That stun powder was impressive V, but stop fighting it.”

“Fighting what Seth? You abused me for years and it took all of my strength to leave and start over. I’m staying here.”

“It’ll be different V, I promise…”

“No, I’m done being a punching bag.”

His eyes widened as he conjured an energy ball. As he threw it I braced myself for the impact, but then it stopped one inch from my face. I looked to see Jade H, Talon, Jade, and Dannie.

“You heard the lady; she’s done being your punching bag.” Jade H smirked

Dannie morphed into her tiger form and roared while Talon went over to Aaron.

“This doesn’t concern you, just me and her.” Seth growled

“Oh it does…” Jade interrupted

“She’s family now; you mess with her, you answer to the rest of us.” Jade H continued

I watched Dannie tackle Seth to the ground, biting and clawing at him. I ran over to Aaron and knelt down beside him.

“Are you ok?” I asked hugging him

“Not so tightly, but I’m ok.” He replied

“Sorry.”

Suddenly I saw a flash of fire hit the rose bush I grew for Aaron. Seth laughed, but I got to my feet and conjured a rose thorn.

“You’ll pay for that Seth…”

I threw the thorn as it split into three and pinned him to a tree. He broke free as I flew at him, but he sent me backwards.

“Vicky…” Jade H yelled

I landed on my feet and began walking towards him. He had started throwing energy balls at me, but I deflected them with my own. Cherry blossom petals began to surround me and I kept walking towards him. He stood there stunned as I stopped a few feet away from him.

“Goodbye Seth…” I whispered

I kneeled down and held my hand out, sending the petals flying towards him. They encircled him as a bright light shot up from the ground. Suddenly he was gone, I looked over at my friends, and their jaws had dropped.

“Vicky, are you ok?” Jade H asked running up to me

“I am now…” I replied turning towards her and hugging her tightly

She walked me over to Talon and Aaron. Aaron took me into his arms and twirled me around. As he put me down I saw Gwen, Heather, and Ben running up to me.

“Vicky we felt that power, was that you?” Heather asked

“It was.” I replied

“What was that?” Jade H asked

“A spell that my mother taught me; it strips a supernatural being of their powers and erases any memory of being one. He’ll start over somewhere new.” I replied

“Vicky that was amazing.” Dannie commented

“Thanks.”

We left and went to the lounge to celebrate.

********************************

A year passed and my apartment has finally become ‘home’. When I first came here, it was weird, suddenly picking up and going somewhere new. But I wouldn’t change a thing that happened. After that night, Gwen, Heather, and Ben headed back to D.C, but visit often.

Everything began to fall back into place, being the assistant to the ‘Jades’ is hard work, but worth it. One cold fall day I was standing before my full length mirror, wearing a pair of black boots, jeans, and long sleeve pink t-shirt. Aaron and I were meeting up with Dannie and Aiden for dinner.

“Vicky…” A voice whispered

“Hey Ash.” I replied

He appeared sitting on my bed, wearing jeans, black shirt, and sneakers.

“How is he?” I asked

“He lives in Boston working for an advertising company. He has no memory of you or his powers. How are you?”

“I’m glad he was able to start over. And I’m doing better, but did you know about Aaron becoming my knight in shining armor?”

“I had a vision; but I’m leaving it at that. I’d better get going, he just pulled up.”

“Bye Ash…”

As he flashed out of my room the bell rang. I walked out of my room, with my purse and jacket to answer the door. I opened it to see Aaron holding a bag of red wine for the restaurant.

“Hey beautiful are you ready to go?” He asked taking me into his arms

“Yeah, I just need to lock up.” I replied

We got into his car and pulled out onto the main road, heading downtown. I felt him take my hand into his and his thumb rubbed the top of my palm.

“I missed you.” He commented

“I missed you too…”

My cheeks slowly started to turn red. It felt amazing that he really respected me and we had taken our relationship slow. We parked in front of the restaurant where Aiden had taken Dannie to on their first date and we saw them waiting outside.

“Hey guys right on time. Our table is ready.” Dannie said giving me a hug

“Cool, lead the way.” I replied

Once we were seated, Aaron gave the bottle of wine to our server to be chilled.

“Have you spoken to your friends from D.C.?” Dannie asked

“Yeah. Gwen is running the bar, while Ben and Heather are working for Ben’s parents at their law firm.” I replied

“That’s good. Everything seems to be falling back into sync again.” Aiden commented

“I know what you mean. What’s going on with you two?” I asked

“We needed a break. Max is due any day now, the family and Myra have been on call for two weeks.” Dannie began

“It’s been false alarm, after false alarm. Been driving us up a wall.” Aiden sighed

“Yeah we really needed the night off. Myra is staying with Max and Andrew and would call if anything changed.”

“I can’t believe it. Now they’re going to be full-blooded were-tigers?” Aaron asked

“They will be. Their powers won’t come until puberty or even sooner. Hopefully it won’t be in front of a crowd of people.” Dannie continued.

The server returned and took our orders. She also brought back the bottle of wine in an ice bucket and four glasses.

“To a night off!” I held my glass up

“To a night off!” Everyone replied

Two hours later Aaron had taken me home and I invited him inside. I put on some music as we curled up on the couch. I laid my head in his lap, while he ran his fingers through my dark blue hair.

“That was fun.” I commented

“It was. Did you talk to Ash today?” He replied

“I did. He stopped by before you got here. Seth has no memory of his powers or me and is happy in Boston.”

“That’s good. Some first date huh?”

I laughed “It only got better after.”

Slowly I sat up and straddled him; I leaned down and kissed his soft lips gently. The kiss became more passionate as he stood up, my legs quickly wrapped around his waist. He leaned me up against the wall and pulled my shirt over my head, tossing it onto the couch. I began unbuttoning his gray shirt and slowly slid it off, exposing his toned body.

His lips travel from my jawline to my neck, a moan escaped my mouth as he places kiss after kiss. Slowly we fall onto my dark green sheets and off-white comforter; his hand began messaging my breast beneath the silk fabric of my white bra. He sat me up and reached around, unhooking my bra and tossing it on the floor.

I pushed him down and straddled him. His hands reached up and pinched my nipples, as I felt my wings unfold. As I bent down I began to unbutton his pants and slide them off revealing his green plaid boxers, he sat up and helped me out of my jeans and matching white underwear. I watched him put on a condom and he entered me slowly. Gradually I met his thrusts, grinding against him, his hands gripped my waist. He stopped and flipped me on my back, moaning in my ear, we both climaxed and he laid his head upon my chest.

“I love you Vicky…” He whispered

At first I laid there stunned, but then I kissed the top of his sweaty head “I love you too…” I replied.
