WHEN EVE ENDS: POEM

Gently though, the dew be falling

Slothfully though, the sun descend

The calm eventide is still abiding

For night to begin and day to end

The quiet air, filled with a mild fragrance

It's silence, broken by the rippling streams

Is changing colour as it mends

To grey from the dusky gold, it seems

The land lies open, like airy hearts

That hum fond tunes in reveries

Beauty, inexplicable as the long day parts

Making way for night, to calm from revelries

My soul grows heavy and light

All at once

And prepares me to to meet the night

Of dear remembrance

For the day is no more

Light has receded

Save for the silver moon of yore

That has gracefully succeeded

And men lay their cares to rest

As we lay to sleep, the great and best
