Wake Me up When Autumn Ends

Autumn ....do you remember the last chance
for love in your lone youth
Could you see beyond that to
the promise of the spring
No ....it was all blinded by hunger
by lustful dreams and indian summers
I ached for touch ....any touch
driven to desparations
But the only caress...
that of the realities of
a life....just of life

And you ......you sang long into the nights
you wore party dresses and danced
with all of the guys.......
Your dark hair laying on shoulders
and sheets long into boredom
while I waited........
you ran
And wrung your hands over
so many choices.......

Now though .......Now you wonder
of the quiet boy down on the edge
of the dance floor........his ache
though ......morphed into a
an atrophy of the heart......
No one knew the medical terms then
only the instant relief
of nights ....long nights.
You the worldly woman
and me .......
I love the turning of the leaves

Some are lucky enough to have found the key to hardening of the heart, I guess I never have. Though I have walked away a time or two and moved my life on - within I still hold the spark of what was once burning there. Part of becoming wise I guess - accepting reality over desire?

Great poem my friend - Hope she knows now what she failed to see them - and incredible man with much to say within that quiet heart!

Hugs my friend

Ooooo Ahorseback! What a sad poem, but beautiful at the same time. The heart-breaking lost love, but yet felt in the memories. And I hope you have traveled on in your journey and found the love that could melt that heart Dear Man that has so much to give.

Blessings and hugs,

Expressive longing from a tender young heart...you coming from within your own experience. She coming from whirling chaos...a longing, too, for what she didn't know. I wonder, if she read this now, would she would even recognize herself? If she has regrets? I suppose we all do. Beautiful

Sad, beautiful and heartfelt poem. Your last comment, about becoming who we are after losing in love, was my thought as I finished reading your poem and read the comments. If it wasn't because of loss, heartache in the past, I wouldn't be in the wonderful relationship I am in now; there is a daily, deep appreciation and love for both my s/o and I.

Violet sun, perhaps our journey's all take the same pathway, And only the selfishness of our hearts tell us somehow our situation is unique. I think I did that , and now sharing with others about life, love , a child and our souls even, let us know .... we are never alone in this universe. Never alone. Thank you and I AM happy for you. We deserve to heal and know within that love is also about loving ourselves. Take care of you , you have a wonderful soul.

I remember vividly those moments of broken heart of years gone by, how I pined each day we were apart and then the loss of her into another's arms. Yet time stood still then, and then continued on to better things ahead. Lovely poem, great reflection of sadness...
