Washed Away in the Sand and Sea........

The sand as the surf loosens
beneath my feet
The turbulant sea .....
angry after the storm
I walk carefully into tthe ripping
tides .....
The waves rise above me
Pulling me under untill muffled sounds of
the waves fill my mind.

But beneath the water my breathing
slows and the gills of a million
years ago return ......
My hands become the finlike
extention they once were.....
Immediately the anger of surface
waves become a sound
of the past......

I see that mans presence
shows even here......Iron hulls lie scattered
in rusting fields of barnacle covered
piles......old cars piled as if
left by the sea children
Plastic rope ....plastic bags......
an engine block.....
oil cans ....and barrels

One broken shell of a boat.....
A deck from a washed away beach
home.......there a set of stairs.......
When will we learn......My memory goes
back to a day of open dumps
where burning piles of
old furniture and used lumber
smoulder away in ash.

Then I return ....in disgust......crawling
back up onto the shoreline......
becoming a man once again.....
I turn to the rolling sea.......
and the tears fill my eyes
blurring my vision.....
No longer are the waves a thing
of beauty ......only a blanket over the
wasteland of man..........

I have seen the wastes of man everywhere ..... on the mountain summits  , along the trails of the hikers......in the Yellowstones pathes and thermal pools........in the oceans waves where they break against the shore......the cities and towns .....and along the edge of pristine rivers .....all spoiled by the presence of man......when will we learn....when.....

Very nice. I think the goal of mankind is to totally ruin the planet we depend on for life. Greed must be stronger than life itself.

This one touched me deeply Ahorseback. We are indeed responsible for much destruction on this planet and now in the space above us. There was a time man knew his connection to this earth, as one of the vast wonderful animals living here. We have moved on it seems to a mind set that everything is replaceable. I once thought that the ideas planted by religion of a "new heaven and earth" was to blame for the lack of concern for the present "heaven and earth". Lately though it is more and more evident that we are simply to arrogant, greedy, selfish and willingly short sighted. Such are the hazzards of "having it all" we lose our bearings.

Please tell me there is hope, that the scales of deception will one day peel off our eyes before all is lost amongst the clutter and waste. We need to take ownership!

We are destroying the beautiful created by God; and it is sad that no one at this point can turn the hands of time back and reinforce law prohibiting such destruction. Living on the East Coast of the U.S. and reading about the Atlantic has kept me from enjoying it's true beauty just as you - in my youth it was much more and now beaches get banned. I enjoyed this.

Cheyenne , good morning , We in America , as the world at large, Have to wrestle back control of our lives from the corporate entities now in ownership of our government leadership. Politically , money and profit dictate policy in all things environmental. Make a political donation and your agenda for profit is free of restriction. Mountain top coal mining in Apalachia or oil drilling on the northern slope. Is it just our burning of resourses that decide our conscience? Certainly it has to be! Our hand is stuck in the machine of progress, can we stop the turning wheels in time to save our bodies ? I wish I thought we can. stay well Cheyenne.

Denizee, Thank you, When the guardians of the sea ;the fishermen, and of the land ;the farmer and rancher ,as well as the rest of us ,lay waste to our resourses. We are in trouble. I see too many problems associated with human nature , and I'm a little worried. I tend to ,sometimes blindly , have too much faith in man. Let's hope and pray.

I watched a logging reality show the other day off the Oregon Coast. I was astounded at the beauty surrounding these men as they worked. I know these times are hard and every man is desparate to keep a job, but I am even more sad to watch as men tear down a forest amongst all the surrounding beauty and never once stop to really recognize their destruction!!

Hey Daddysgirl, yes of course they tell you its a resourse that regenerates itself , and in many places they do replant trees , but we all know ,even the loggers ,that they are taking it faster than it regrows. Here , my problem is that the government allows misuse of public lands and waters and the runnoff polution associated with bad practices. Natural resourses are being raped by profitmakers on all fronts. oxoxoxoxo love ya girl.

At first you bring me to beautiful ocean. The breeze, the feeling, I feel like I really there... scary, but also beautiful. Your description is perfect! But then, suddenly you changed the view so sudden, and I am choke by disgust. Really annoying, but definitely effective to make your point 10 times stronger. Great skill, Ahorseback! You make people see through your eyes and that is amazing way to make people understand. Vote up and awesome!

QudsiaP1, thank you my dear , I do believe many, many do care. Can we change the course? Lets hope so, I do believe that young people have the most opportunity to change the tired habits of those before them! Thank you for sharing with me.

Hello Freya , I have missed you! Just beneath the surface of beauty lies the hidden side of mankind. I see little things sometimes and it bothers me to see the dark side of human nature. Thank you my dear, I knew you would see this as possitive .

Chs. thank you , Oh! lets hope not . I think its too easy for man to just turn his head the other way. We drive down the road going by junk yards , run down parts of the city , tire dumps. etc. but if we could look beneath the sea , how much would it shock us? thanks for reading.

LOOOVE IT!!! You knew I would! As an a girl who dreams of her own fins but can only have them in spirit, and as an aspiring sea activist. The whole thing was magical and wrung a sad siren song out to the world... Indeed, when will we learn? "Then I return ....in disgust......crawling

back up onto the shoreline......

becoming a man once again.....

I turn to the rolling sea.......

and the tears fill my eyes

blurring my vision.....

No longer are the waves a thing

of beauty ......only a blanket over the

wasteland of man........."

... "A blanket over the wasteland of man"... Even she is not safe from us. Well done, and I DEEEPLY thank you for voicing this with such magic.
