We Are Our Brothers Keeper.....

One of the hard questions
and I'm here to answer
No hidden messege no lies
I'm not a dancer

We ARE our brothers keeper how
can we be not
Save the whale ...save the panda..... save the children
what else you got

Advice columns ....help wanted ....dear abbey
what proof do you need
Welfare ....social security .....food stamps
and yes alot of greed

Peace in the family... in the neighborhood
in the city and world
Even the kitty's content
and curled

Hold the door for the ladies
hold out your heart for the taking
We are our brothers keeper
never keeping what we're making

"I am not my brothers keeper" ? how much
more could we ask ?
If I could .......I would keep you for myself
all you need is ask

Oh, I so love this one--the rhythm, the tone, the message. Perfect. Every vote but funny!

Quite thought-provoking--with a hint of a lovely personal element? Juxtaposing our independence with care for each other is a lot to think about, but not difficult. Good stuff. Will be back to read again...

You have the most amazing heart, my friend! Truly, you do, i hope you know! i just watched a video of a republican representative in the house, stand up and say in all seriousness: WHY should the 85% of those of us who are employed have to look after the 15% that are not? WHY should the 85% be PUNISHED?

I'm like; are you KIDDING me??? Even BEASTS protect their weak, at least most of them! First, they cut of all avenues of GAINING employment (or a decent education), and then - they wanna just let em DIE!

i'm appalled at what i see happening in the ??UNITED?? States!

sharing on

sorry for ranting. it's early - i'm still full of it..lol

hugs

I don't know where you heard that, ImKarn, with all due respect. We don't have 85% employed in the U.S. and the wealthy have been recently reported to be renouncing their citizenship in the U.S. In other words, they are moving out of the country so they won't be taxed. You might recall that when the French were stoking 75% in taxes, their rich ran to Belgium. When that happened they removed the tax hike and some returned back home. We in the U.S. have about an unemployment rate of 8% but that's not counting those in poverty or those whom have stopped looking for work altogether. Some say the REAL figure is nearly half the people not working and those that are working are only part-time workers. Most of the people employed in the U.S. are not employed by the government but from jobs created by those people now leaving the country (although since Obama took office government jobs have expanded). We don't just lose "wealth" when they leave, we lose persons who have creative ingenuity and run huge businesses that create jobs. What we have here is a crisis of unparalleled proportions that even China's leader asked Obama, "Why don't you stop spending so much money"! And there are problems with lawless regulators that recently earned a judicial rebuke in the Wall Street Journal (see "Problems With Authority" 8/14/13) where the appeals court issued an unusual writ of mandamus to compel the government to fulfill a legal obligation and observing the continual disregard by the Executive branch federal statutes and the Constitution, which even some democrats don't like the smell of. The order goes on about the rewriting of laws, thus ignoring the constitution. Even Chavez's successor, Nicolas Maduro, must get approval of three-fifths of the 165-seat national legislature to enact laws by decree. In the United States the Executive branch is going BEYOND even the approval of its own party. We're talking here about a crisis of magnificent proportions that the economy is a symptom. When a country is run, not by a government, but like a republic, by the people, it relies not only on the income generated by a creative job creating force, but also the capacity of those on top to delegate forces and responsibilities that create jobs - and a legislature that legislates for the people. I know it sounds complicated but side-stepping the law and the legislative process indicates that even if all the rich stayed home and gave ALL their money away, the people would not see a penny of it. That is because the current plan for our economy has NO concern for people at all.

Cinthggt, Really this poem isn't about the politics of America , but about its people . This came from my personal viewpoint of what I believe our culture is about ! However , The state of our present government IS piss poor ! Both sides , or should I say all sides ! The rich have gotten richer , the legal system in American is in as bad a shape as congress itself ! Questionable Financial gain by wall street , by congress , by big business goes on day after day , no matter their allegiances to whichever party ! Republicans and democrats in our government are equally at fault now aren't they ! Want to see real poverty ? Why does neither party address the Appalachian poverty , the ruination of our first nation peoples ....the Navajo , the Cheyenne , the Cherokee ...we can lay all day long ....entrepreneurs are as guilty as well ! Our present president has no more insight into solving our woes than does China's leaders , as a matter of fact , China might start playing by the same rules as the rest of the really free world ! Their trade policies suck ! ........Oh oh you got me going !.....LOL

Oh, ahorseback, I am so sorry not to have said anything to you about your poem. I had seen the comment and replied both to the comment by KimKarn and your poem but then my FireFox crashed and I went back up to finish but apparently it was not there.

I love your poem. In fact, it is wonderful. That we have different opinions does not take away from that. :) Peace and take care.
