What Can a Poor Girl Do?

What can a poor girl do
If she won’t sell her body?
What can a poor girl do
When you can’t live on sympathy?

Not every door opens with a smile
Sometimes it takes a little more
She puts on some sexy clothes
And sighs as she heads out the door

Being poor is hard for a nice girl who won’t give herself away
She knows what sin can do but instead she decides to pray

Every man wishes he had a woman’s power
But she doesn’t think like a man
Not every man understands her problems
But she won’t do what they assume she can

They see her pretty face
And it makes them feel small
Even though she’s the one who suffers
She’s not a girl who takes a call

Being poor is hard for a nice girl who won’t give herself away
She knows what sin can do but instead she decides to pray

I gave her a big tip once
It might as well have been a dime
But it made her smile
And I left her with a moment in time

Being poor is hard for a nice girl who won’t give herself away
She knows what sin can do but instead she decides to pray

What can a poor girl do
But play on the streets?
What can a poor girl do
When she won’t look for answers between the sheets?
What can a poor girl do?
What can a poor girl do?

@Kulsum - Thank you for commenting. Yeah sometimes poverty is worse than it sounds which is hard to believe. The cure can be worse than the disease.

@raciniwa - That sounds hopeful... thank you again!
