What Notions Come

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

What notions come in dreams,

thoughts far from cognizance,

arriving in salubrious array,

to be honoured and recognised.

So often I have cast them aside as fantasy,

as fragments of my weaving conscience,

manifest in memory and imaginings,

and vying for firm ground to land.

Yet sometimes these phantoms answer my call,

an outstretched hand in offering,

a pathway to a soulful want,

an aspiration of deep and profound meaning.

These notions are gifts,

answers to a fateful conclusion of purpose,

beyond our meagre hopes,

and in play with greater power than our own.

When there is recognition there is fervour,

a sudden resurgence of purpose and self-worth,

from even the darkest nest,

a light shines on a pathway beyond our petty concerns.

Here in the vibrancy of this path,

lies the opportunity of becoming more,

aspiring to heights unconsidered,

and at risk surrendering to a higher ideal.

Once taken, this gift must be nurtured,

sacrifices made and work instilled,

for taking a notion to fruiting,

is both an arduous and rewarding task.

Then, when all is done,

life will measure where it takes us,

and we, having accepted the journey,

await destinations as yet unknown.

For sure! BTW, I really liked that opening image... and identify with it... ;-)
