Say My Name Say My Name Say My Name - Meanings of Names

Meanings of Names

The names we have are one common way to identify each individual. Names are a blessing to have, instead of being reduced to a number, for identification purposes. It's been known through history that Adolf Hitler didn't allow the people he had put in concentration camps, to use their names. They were referred to by numbers, only to erase and demean their true identity.

When parents name their child at birth, there is some thought behind every person’s name. There are names in the Biblical times that had a meaning to each individual, for prophesy and purpose. Your name will be with you forever. When you greet others you exchange names first, it's a common courtesy. Your age will change, your height and weight will change, and your mind will change for the better or worse, but your name will never change. Also some people are named after other people in their family, like their aunts or uncles. And some names are passed down from a father to his son, starting with: senior, junior, and the 3rd - III.

I named my daughter a name that I thought no one else would have. I combined my best friend name and my sister name together to name my daughter. And I recently found out that the name I made up for my daughter was on the list of "Facebook" names. Isn't that a trip? I guess there is nothing new under the sun. There are names that have a whole story behind the name given to an individual.

Since the Biblical times, there was so much importance to what a person's name meant. And that's why still today people want to know for their selves; "What does my name mean?"

So Will the Real "Slim Shady" Please Stand Up

There are songs referring to the music artist's name, their showing confidence in their name (or their stage name). Your name is a unique identifier for identity purposes. Being called by your name is a blessing, and important. Being called by a number is not a blessing, and you wouldn't feel important.

Research shows that a name given at birth can be given a meaning by the parents, or a Spiritual Leader. My daughter's class was given a homework assignment, to look up the meaning of their names. She searched for the meaning of her name, and she couldn't find it anywhere. So I told her the meaning of her name, since I am her parent. My daughter likes the meaning I gave for her name; it made me emotional and joyful at the same time.

names are very important because you are attaching something to your child and you must be careful of what that is, for instance the name Jabez meaning child of sorrow of of woe why would someone want to hang such a heavy burden on a child.

Also @ Jagandelight, lol this is true. There are many names that have a negative meaning, and I carefully chose not to insert them into this hub. Thanks for commenting, you all visit again.

Interesting! We cannot underestimate the importance of names. I usually say that since it is your name, you can give it the the meaning you want it to have (of course, you'd have to live up to the meaning you choose).

Hi MsDora,

Well if we can give the meaning to our own name, I'm hoping people choose a positive meaning. Thanks
