When Ego Bows
When Ego Bows

Crushing to the ego but nourishment to the soul,
letting all your truths find wings, will in time just make you whole.
For selfless acts of recognition, the inadequacies that keep us back,
will only intrude on goals and plans, and uphold those traits we lack.
It's not easy to stand in stark daylight, with all our foibles and our woes,
even harder to be found out wanting, when it matters most doors close.
Although the pain is evident, this acknowledgement of imperfection,
the ego bows and the heart does soar, when found a new direction.
Most people surround themselves with walls, to keep their delusions alive,
and propagate their visions of self, and in ignorance learn to strive.
To bolster their dark and wanting thoughts, of self and potentials not their,
they invent the truth with embellishment, to satisfy their care.
That is why so few of us can let ego bow to heart,
to allow the truth of warts and all to create a brand new start.
With fear our greatest foe in life, and truth what brings us undone,
all those lies we tell ourselves until our life is done.
But in the end I prefer the pain and the reality of who I am,
for without it I am purposeless and my words not worth a damn.
So transparency calls me to duty, my ego cowering in shadows lost,
so my heart can call a spade a spade, and I in myself trust.
