When Julia Met Björn
How can you fix a broken heart?
Julia is waking up to a cloudy November day in a suburb to a big city where she lives. She moved here some months ago and all she owns is a bed and some clothes. She lives in a one room apartment with her friend Jennifer. It's a simple life for a young girl moving from the countryside to big city to study and learn about life. This is her new home and it's a beautiful place. She really feels like home here.
Julia is happy to have found an apartment outside the big city. She lives by the woods and close to a beautiful bay. Julia goes out to take a walk this Saturday – the day after she met Björn. She has to take some fresh air to clear her thoughts. The wind is blowing in her hair and yellow, red and brown leaves are slowly falling to the ground between the red and white wood houses on a calm street. She now walks all by herself surrounded by the colors and the sounds from the nature. Her phone does not ring and she is scared to call Björn. What would she say? What does she want from him? Of course she should take the chance to meet this nice, young man again. She could still feel and taste his kiss from last night.
She is not yet ready for a new relationship. Her heart is still in two pieces since the love of her life left her. She is not even sure it's over yet. They are still seing each other, but Julia knows he has a new girlfriend, actually the same girlfriend he had before her. Maybe he has even more girlfriends. Julia has never really trusted him, but she will never stop loving him.
The name of the man she met last Friday night is Björn – just like Björn in ABBA, and all night Julia felt like the Dancing Queen. Björn is a Swedish name and in English it means Bear like in that big, strong, dark animal. Björn really was the right name for him. Julia felt safe in his arms that night. She is now overwhelmed by thinking of meeting Björn last night and what it would be like meeting him again.
Her head feels like a heavy stone this Saturday, but she gets a smile on her face and a shiver runs down her spine when she thinks about what happened last night. She had been drinking too much alcohol and maybe he had too. Maybe Björn had already forgotten about Julia. But then again – can you forget a kiss like that? He had gotten her number, but would he call her?
Julia Being Björn's Dancing Queen
It was Friday night in the big city. Julia and her friend Jennifer – the two Jays – where going out to party as usual on a Friday. They had been drinking, dancing and drinking again. They had gotten to know the DJ playing at this place. His name was Sam. They often went here to dance to the Latin music Sam was playing. DJ Sam was from a country far away. He felt exotic and at the same time a little dangerous.
This night was before the night Julia and Jennifer had been sitting in the backseat of Sam's car and he had been telling them about his life. He had two girlfriends, and the three of them were living together. For country girls like Julia and Jennifer this was all new and strange, but DJ Sam seemed to be a nice guy. Julia really liked the fact that people could be who they wanted to be in this big city. Where she came from everyone had to act and do certain things to be accepted by others.
This Friday night Julia and Jennifer were dancing to DJ Sam's music once again. Of course they met some nice guys too – as usual. Julia's friend Jennifer has the look that makes men come crawling after her. Julia was happy to be the one that was less popular. This night something different happened. This young, handsome, dark stranger was not interested in Jennifer. Julia was the centre of his attention. Julia had never met anyone who looked that good and seemed that nice – not even the love of her life who had broken her heart some months ago.
Maybe this Björn could heal Julia's broken heart now.
Making Wrong Decisions
Late that Saurday afternoon the phone is ringing. It is him! It's Björn. Julia doesn't want to answer. She is afraid of what to say. She is afraid of her own feelings. Finally she has no other choise than picking up the phone.
Now many years later, Julia doesn't remember what made her say she didn't want to meet him again. She wanted to meet him. She wanted it so bad. She just didn't have the courage. Maybe her broken heart didn't believe in loving again.
In fact, Julia realized years later that she had been haunted by her first big love for a long time. He showed up in her thoughts every now and then. They even run into each other in that big city one night and spent some hours getting drunk together. Some years after that, they even moved to the same place living total different lives with their families. Julia made this one man steer her important decisions in life hoping that they could have a future together some day. Their story seems to be never ending ...
Julia and Björn could have been walking on this shore together ...
Julia never heard a word from Björn again. He could have been the one making her happy again if she would have let him in her life that windy Saturday in November a long, long time ago.
The story of Julia meeting Björn had come to an end before it even started.
