Was in my youth when love's refrain,
did steal my heart my soul remain,
to watch me soar to highest flight,
and then to fall in soured delight.
When life did whisper enticing pleas,
and I all stars agreed, believed,
when hearts did rule a barren land,
and hopeful bliss of fancy brand.
While eyes all filled with loving ends,
take shelter from the storm, amend,
a book of tales in dreams at night,
explored in life until it bites.
As times does pass and flesh imparts,
and hearts learn love is more than art,
when balanced minds attest to rhymes,
discover more than touch sublime.
When hearts grow old and stories told,
when bones do grind and aches in time,
when love sweet breath on ears all deaf,
with caring hands secure.
It is love that swells a heart all given,
when tears and joy are shared in living,
when true love nurtures a life together,
and age and wrinkles endeared in winter.
It is real love that meets reality,
not a dream or fancy in sight.
