When a Child...
When a Child

When a child asks why,
what they are told becomes truth,
a reflection of their parents understanding,
uncontested and believed unconditionally.
When a child observes their parents,
how they respond, what they say,
and how they behave in life,
a child then moulds itself,
a mirror of those who stand upon a pedestal,
whose nature is a child’s aspiration.
When a child sees disarray,
hurt and conflict,
they quickly learn it to be normal,
and as a mirror, reflect.
When they see their parents hate,
see judgement and oppression,
of those who may be different,
they learn to behave similarly.
When a child experiences love,
kindness and compassion,
they embrace it fully and without reflection,
become the passage of love's intent.
Within the arms of loving parents,
children grow strong,
learn to think for themselves,
and discover the ideal of understanding.
When love is nurtured love is expressed,
and hatred pales in a world of hurt.
Adults are all custodians of a new generation,
the foundation of belief of millions of new souls.
How we live life determines how those live after us,
their attitudes, their ambitions and beliefs,
are all moulded by you and I, parents or not.
How true do we live for these children?
When a child is born,
the world brims with potential,
yet another opportunity to create a peaceful world.
