When the Heart Finds a Home

She had settled down

So very long ago

Leaving family and friends

Far behind to find what her heart

Was ever searching for

Her work as a teacher

Among the towns friendly people

Satisfied her but left her feeling alone

The area was surrounded by ranches

And fine looking cowboys

Were everywhere you looked

She’d finally came to realize

That perhaps her heart’s desire

Was not here but back home

And she was thinking

Of returning to see what she could find

But her heart was aching

For the beauty here was lovely

She had made some friends

And she would miss the children so

Undecided and unhappy the day

Turned one into another

Now there was a cowboy

Who had caught her eye

But he never encouraged

And they only spoke on friendly terms

Now this cowboy was in a dilemma

Having had his heart broken

Once too often

By women who were just passing through

But never meant to stay

He was unsure of the beauty

Who had come to settle here

Now he heard that she was thinking

Thinking of leaving

And he wondered why?

Every morning he rode to town

Passing by her house

And he looked over to see

How her auburn hair

Shone in the morning sun

As she stood on her porch

And so often

He wanted to stop by

But there was always that question

Would love find a way this time?

Now he knew he’d have to find out

He couldn’t let her leave

Not if she was the one

And so determined he was

And the next afternoon

This handsome cowboy

Rode up to her house

Upon his white horse

With a bouquet of field flowers

And a bottle of wine

She stood there on the porch

Watching him approach

And he was dazzled by the rays of the sun

Which played with her hair

He was glad to see her smile

And he rode up and climbed off

His horse gave a soft neigh

And headed into the field

For the sweet smelling clover there

He approached her slowly

She took the gifts he offered

And then they looked at one another

He bent his head to softly kiss her

And it was this kiss

That made her heart give a little jump

Her mother had always told her

That if you found true love

Your heart would know it right away

Now she knew what that meant

And she was so glad to know

That she was home at last

And love was here to stay

Nothing ventured, nothing gained - he ventured and they both gained. What a lovely, romantic story-in-a-poem!

Very well narrated story, coming straight out from the heart. I've always felt that people who have the ability to talk from their heart are really nice people, more so in demand nowadays. As for the heart of home, we all are looking to go there, but many are yet to find that place. Nice share, thanks.

I've said it before and will say it again, you tell us so much in such little space! You have my emotions changing line by line. First I was thinking she should go home, then I was thinking maybe she should stay, then when you introduced him whamo...I was hooked.

Voted all but funny, pinned, and shared.

It is a rare breath of fresh air when you find love. Chemistry is inexplicably "wondrous." The huge endeavor is for two hearts to take that chance. Putting yourself out there is akin to being naked, and we risk being hurt. However, without such risk, deep and true love would never be known.
