Where Is She: a poem about missing the girl I used to be

Source

Where Is She?

Oh, won't someone please tell me, where is she?

It seems like forever I've been searching

I'm not sure where she could possibly be

Is it in the shadows she's been lurking?

Could it be that she has suddenly died?

Maybe she disappeared without a trace

There aren't many places for her to hide

Because my heart is one big empty space

This me that used to be, of years gone by

It is she that held my dreams in her heart

Perhaps she will find some new wings to fly

By chance bringing another dream to start

It seems tome she must be somewhere near

Yes, surely she will one day reappear

Thank you so much, Eddy! I see that you're from Wales. Beautiful place. I've been there many years ago. I was fresh out of high school.

I related to this one too! I really like the wistful tone.

Thank you. Sometimes it is good to stop and remember who you were, who you are, and who you want to be. Especially if you miss who you used to be!

Yes! I sometimes get glimpses of my old self. :-) I also often wonder who I might have been without the negative parts of my story and let that inspire me to let go of the unnecessary baggage.

Indeed let go! You can't change what was or what might've been, but you can focus on the here and now. Pain has its purpose for healing, but beyond that it really is unnecessary baggage.

Too bad it is sometimes hard to shake. I've found that is sometimes sheer willpower, a choice to choose to stop thinking about whatever it is causing those feelings. Then look for the humor and those people and things that can make me smile. It is hard to believe in the moment of pain, but it does eventually get better and easier to not think about the things causing tears.

Actually, that reminds me of a Jo Dee Messina song called "It Gets Better." You might look it up on YouTube. I think you will like it, if you don't already know it. It's just a beautiful song that says so much.

Sometimes we ache to go back to where we have been. This poem reminds me of those times. But the girl is still there, somewhere inside you. She's just grown up a bit and moved on, hopefully lessons learned and not too harshly, but on to be the woman she wants to be. : ) Great poem of reflection. Voted up! : )

Thanks. I think everyone has those moments of nostalgia, I guess you would call them. :)

A poetic elegy so bittersweet and poignant and I am quite sure the 'gender' could be changed here as well from a man's point of view.

You are a deep and profound writer/poet and every word and thought reverberates with soul and sensitivity.

I always sense too a lyric songwriting about your work.

Sending you warm wishes from a day here by the lake which seems more like fall once again rather than spring or summers - yikes.

Haha....Lurana has said the same thing. Perhaps it is no secret that I would love to be a lyricist! I actually have few songs and I hope to do more in the near future. Thanks for stopping by, my friend.

Shan- Oh she's still right there where she always has been , the only problem is ,I think , the more we write the more we find out how deep we can be ! And how complicated we become in our yearning to really understand the life we live , YOU are a beautiful person ,you know that .....right ?.......:-} @----)----

Miss Shanmarie..

I also, have asked those questions. it is a search of the memories that allows us to push forward.. to remember what we were, and realize what we can be again.. and yet better.. wiser.. and more appreciative.. but by all means, here we are again.. on the merry-go round..

Thank you for your visit, Oscarlites. Yes, that's the goal. To be better, wiser, and more appreciative and yet to hold onto parts of youth that keep us able to enjoy life.
