Who Were You Trying to Impress?
I wonder who holds the key to my door
But maybe I’ve been holding it all along
I walk by every princess in town
But maybe it’s me who wears a broken crown
Brushing your hair to look like a birds wing
You didn’t see me in the mirror
I didn’t know who you were trying to impress
Was it me or someone else?
It’s not an easy thing to accept
When your pride decides to tell the truth
The steps I’ve been climbing were built by me
And not by a girl I assumed was too hard to get
Trying on a dress with the sun shining through
You didn’t see me in your closet
I didn’t know who you were thinking of
Was it me or some other love?
Someone told me to look a women in the eye
Tell her she is beautiful and how you need her
I thought every man acted this way
I lost you when I decided to be different
Walking out the door looking like love tonight
You didn’t see me close it behind you
I didn’t know who you were going to see
Was it me or the man who set you free?
