Why I can't forget......

My two best friends .......
My two best friends .......

Part One .......

I suppose I should explain, as much as I can , For the untrained poet . For the uneducated writer , there are words that flow from a faucet that have no control of origin . This writing comes from the mind of the arrested development somewhere from within my youth . From eternal memories that lie about the cutting room floor of the mind. And from a place in my mind that has no control over itself.

But I don't really want that now
do I
Though I remember the single bare
ll
ightbulb of my youth

I cannot forget one thing though
the quiet unsettled peace
of purety in solitude

Nor the pangs of hunger that
formed themselves not unlike a
cancer on the ribs of my youth

No .....some things are unforgettable
The worn images of second or third hand
matress'

The pure adrenaline
or more likely night panics
of the dark and dreary peace

Of stolen dreams hidden quickly
away in that little corner closet
no not now....not ever

Helplessly standing frozen as violence
rips away the moss covered dreams
of youth

Domestic or driven into reality
by an uncaring society
it matters not

Unforgiven self ....the thought only
increases the culture
of guilt

The guilt of the innocence
an interesting place
to worship´╗┐

We can never forget, but we must forgive in order to move on. It's important to appreciate the past, so that we can build our present and future. Nice poem.

Wow what an amazing poem. The imagery you use is so powerful.

"cancer in the rib of my youth"

Absolutely amazing. I felt like I was right there with you silently suffering by your side. Voting up and awesome.

A vivid, keenly poignant glimpse into scenarios of anguish, whether psychological or more tangible, horseback. It's unclear if it's personal or observational, but it is quite clearly experienced in some manner. I hope its wounds have healed or are healing. It's well depicted, in any case. Perhaps the single bare lightbulb highlights it most.

Nellieanna , Yes from some place in my memory comes healing words ! I think that writing gives me that ,an escape for a hidden childhood perhaps. I do hate to think that even today children suffer such things as hunger , solitude , or a home where they internalize such things as suffering. Thank you for understanding....:-}

Voted up and beautiful! Childhood and youth go by much too quickly leaving harsh reality behind. Great that we can return to better times in out memories.

Our children suffer so many things that we may never know of it's long fingered grasp into the future. I hope that you come to know peace from those hidden events and can move forward with increased awareness of your strength.

You are very welcome and when we do return to days gone by I don't think that we are slipping back;we do this because there will always be memories;they can never be switched off; and by doing so we can also see how far we have moved forward and succeeded.

Take care

Eddy.

Sometimes, when the voice speaks unbidden, the result can be some of the most powerful work we do. Your piece, and for me--especially last stanza, are that. Bravo!
