Wide Awake In the Middle Of the Night

On A Beach

Source

Wide awake in the middle of the night

I lay here thinking of the good days

when I spent time with a friend on a beach

when we still were so young and innocent.

We thought our friendship would last

for years and decades to come

until we would both get old

and chase our grandchildren on the beach.

The thought of our friendship keeps me awake,

a friendship that we lost while we were busy living our lives

in separate worlds and in separate ways.

I still lay wide awake thinking of the good days

but in case I fall asleep tonight

please, wake me up when it's all over.

I don't know what's worse - losing a friend or losing a lover.
