Winter on the bay........

Unbearable to the flesh of man
crystalline ice particles dancing in air
And the whitecaps on the bay
the water too rough to freeze there

Isolation by choice perhaps solitude
by invention
Gazing out from the warmth ...I've
no willful intention

The windows caulked for winter
as if a ship on the sea
The only thoughts are of sleep
yet rest I will not see

Distant storms of snow
hurricanes typhoons or tornadoes
And yet I lose track of which
as the cold wind blows

The sun might even follow suit
all given the storms by name
Or even a finicky downpour
too cold though for rain

Opening the stove add another armful
of wood
But no....I would be nowhere else
even if I could

Winter on the bay unforgiving
ye
t forgiving's what we all need
As darkness falls over the lake
the dark night winds are freed

Writing by the fire and glancing to
the echoes of the howling wind sound
A soft glow of lighting in the darkness
glad for what peace I have found

Voted up and beautiful. A warm winter spent in a home warmed by a wood fire. So lovely. I really love those old fashioned pot bellied stoves and I also like fireplaces. Unfortunately the cold has found me with none. Reading your poem I saw the snow fly and heard the wind blow and the crackle of the wood.

I lived in the midwest most of my life and saw many snowfalls that kept us cabin bound for days. Your poem reminds me of the beauty of those times. I can relate to your not wanting to leave winter's beauty and serene enviornment. Miss those woodstove fires at night. Beautiful poem.

Thank you for this beautiful poem, although I honestly don't miss the cold at all, now that I live in Florida. Every year my wife and I said the same thing in November, "Winter is so beautiful!", but by February the enchantment was gone. Thank you again.
