Wish Me a Dream........

While you drift away into the world of
sleep on a
moon beam
I would only ask only one thing of
you...... wish me a dream

I lay here in wonder ....why the
darkness is becoming a friend
Sleep just won't come.......although
dawn promises an end

Sleep never does come easily though
as I lay here needing only dreams
My eye's become accustomed .....I know each sound
each shadow.....and colored moon beams

Perhaps I am destined to relive
forgotten nights of long ago
Or await the memories of them
to arrise in the moon glow

A night yearning for just awhile .....
.....anxiety digs it's fingers deep
What need I have for rest....
what begs me from my sleep

Is it just me ....or do many men
lack for dreaming in reality
For now .... I'll take just the night dreams
until the life I live has finality

For now though ........my heart is tired.....and
even tired provides the means
But while you sleep in peace my love
wish me a dream

Sleep better in hypnotherapy? Its depend on what is the caused of the problem. For trouble to sleep because of physical problems, like pregnancy hormonal problem for example, it is simple, just suggest them to sleep better at night under and wake up with cozy feeling and fresh mind while they are under trance. But if the caused is something more deeper than only physical problems then we need more chat and chat and chat. ^_* But for us, Dad, I believe, writing the content of your heart is always the best therapy. ^^

Thank goodness sleep is not a problem for me but I do feel for people who can't sleep. I have no great solution though, just to wish you a good night slumber.

So I'm not the only nocturnal being out there. ;) It's 2:30am here and I can hear howling winds & dogs yawning. I enjoy being up at night as it's more peaceul than the busy running about and noise of the day... But, alas the Sandman awaits... Here's to dreams!

Beautifully written and enjoyed.

Excellent scribe my friend horseback, may you find peace and rest in your dreams. My demons enter my dreams taking my rest and leaving me weary in the end. Night and darkness are my friends, sleep a yearning that leaves my candle lit and quill at hand.

Fifty seven is not old, there is a natural product someone has here Melatonin...something that is said to work really great with no side effects. Won't make you groggy and you wake refreshed. I just put beautiful pictures in mind and take myself there.

ahorseback profile image

ahorseback 5 years ago Author

Hi Jackie I have tried Melatonin a couple of times and don't find it works for me. I generally read myself to sleeep and I'm Ok , I actually used to have much more trouble sleeping than now. But I remember many nights of lieing awake for hours when younger . Thank you for caring though and now Is this picture the real you? LOL. Be well Jackie!

At the times in my life that sleep evaded me I tried different things to lure it in... I listened to my favorite soundtract of a movie, focusing on the haunting melodies there, UNTIL I started to watch that same movie with some friends and as soon as the movie started I started nodding off. Yikes! Talk about embarassed I could barely stay awake.

So now I - like you - read till sleep overtakes me. My bed is full of books and at times I awaken book in hand and the light on... other times pages later I see the pink of dawn greet me as I have been lost in a story.

I also leave the blinds in my bedroom open at night so on those sleepless times I can follow the moon and lose myself in the wandering of the stars above me...

Dreams can be interesting things to wander in, or they can cause a terror so deep the fear lasts for days.

I wish you peaceful slumber, with dreams of bliss - filled with friends and things of lifes pleasant memories.

Hugs to you and many fluffy pillows for your sleepy head.

Laurie

Cheyenne Autumn ! Laurie , my lomg lost friend , I hope you haven't been busy with work all this time! You had better be taking care of you , for us all! We need your powerful medicine ! Ahh sleep , I think sometimes it was made only for babies and teenagers , I would guess one night out of four or five that I actually feel realy rested in the morning. I too love to listen to just music , the soft soul soothing folk or instramental for me . I realy find myself reading until the story line goes way off course and my mind begins to wonder around in its own story lines. Often I check my place on the kindle the next day and have to backtrack some! Oh , the tricks of the sunconcience mind ! It's really good to see you. :-}

Your poetry is beautiful and so personal. You seem to just let it flow and it does it well.

Only at one period of my life did I have trouble sleeping - one semester at college.

I often stay up long hours, but not because I can't go to sleep. But all I need do is lie down. But there's the rub: - - I delay lying down. When I do, though, it feels like pure luxury and I drift off quickly into refreshing sleep. The amount I get seems not to matter too much because the quality of it is so good.

I have a theory that a lot of it is a matter of what one expects. Expecting either to sleep easily or to struggle to sleep become self-fulfilling, though to sleep is such a natural thing that when we "try" - it becomes elusive, like loving or laughing can do. So it's logical that by relaxing about it and simply not trying or fretting about it allows it to come about naturally. At least - that's my theory - and I'm sticking to it.

Nellieanna , Great advice , and thank you for reading and commenting, Once long ago when I was young I read this : Go through a process of mentaly shutting down your body . In your mind you begin with your feet ,legs ,knees , thighs, chest and the last thing being your mind. Mentally shutting down each part of you're body . And for years I used this often succesfully. It IS mostly mind control ! It's nice to see you Nellieanna. :-}

Yes, dear friend, I've heard that kind of relaxing the body part by part does help & I've tried it in various ways. Perhaps considering it as more a process of "letting go" than as mind control can hasten its benefits. Control is often what keeps us more rigid, and therefore - awake. :-) It's a small difference but a vital one.

If I am not already asleep when my bod hits the sheet, I generally stretch all over when I lie down (sort of cat-like) which instantly relaxes any taut muscles and promotes spontaneous lovely deep breaths. It's almost euphoric. But how easily we slip into taking shallow breaths during our active day, especially involving the more mental activities.

A simple really deep breath does wonders to relax! I sleep flat on my back, usually sans pillow, in good position to stretch the parts of me, from shoulder & neck muscles, arms, back, legs and feet, which almost seems automatic in that position. This also helps keep 'em limber.

There are also key spots on one's face which can be gently massaged to produce relaxation in those muscles and promote spontaneous deep breathing. i think they're called pressure points. Takes only moments to massage them, plus it relaxes the face muscles and helps ward off wrinkles. hehe. Years ago I learned about this in a book ("The Acupressure Facelift") by the beautiful actress Lindsay Wagner (remember The Bionic Woman series?) who has remained amazingly youthful over many years since her 'heyday'. I was starting college when she was being born, but her emergence puts her at 62 now and still looking quite beautiful and I suppose my loosely practicing her technique has helped me manage too.

Allowing oneself to sleep is certainly managed mentally, but benefits from becoming an easy coordination between mind and body. It's the body which needs the sleep most, and it knows how to achieve it, by letting go and allowing it to happen. We have an "intelligence of the body" which we often neglect, plus our advantage of mental intelligence.

When I went through my insomnia period, I remember clearly lying in bed trying to sleep, while other kinds of thoughts - school, tests, etc - crowded out the possibility. I know several folks who endure it and I always wish I could just wave a magic wand and bring on their sleep. Of course - it's not much more difficult than that - but one has to wield the wand oneself.

I would wish you this luxury which is free and natural!! Hope I'm not just meddling. If I am, just ignore it and forgive me, please! Hugs.

ahorseback profile image

ahorseback 5 years ago Author

Nellieanna , All of that such sound advice , No , No meddling there just a kind soul willing to help! I appreciate all you say , I like that subtle differnce."letting go" sounds much better. Thanks for all the great advice! Big hug for you!....:-}
