You Look Wonderful Tonight ....

Tonight I am standing down wind
of a most beautiful breeze of love

Amazing is a sight that makes me
proud to share the shadow from above

Many would consider pride to be a virtue
of only the lowly and simplest of man

And yet isn't pride a huge part of love
itself when taking love in hand

And what of you ? You have been burned
desecrated exploited and yet still

Yet you stand tall there above those who'll
not understand and never will

A power so silent as to never speak
is the most powerful voice of all

And yet just how long you might stand ?
We can only let you make that call

To me there are some things that are just to beautiful to destroy or exploit for any cause, there has been far , far too much good to come from what this flag represents . And I believe that when a population becomes too far above displaying it respectfully and begins distroying it willfully , then perhaps even the ultimate freedoms that this flag represents are being overused . Once about thirty years ago I got a phone call asking me to participate in a poll , one of the questions was , "Do you think it's okay for the American flag be used to promote a business or a product ?"....and without a lot of thought I said "yes " and to myself thought , what an odd question ! Boy was I wrong !

Hey Wayne , Every time I see an incident of desecration I become pretty dissapointed in our modern culture . Seems nothing is sacred anymore , thanks for the share !

'taking love in hand' might just be the title of my next poem...ya know? lol..

i loved the sentiment of this poem, Cowboy - often when i see the flag waving lazily in the breeze - it can bring tears to my eyes!

sadly, i think you may be right - America is not as PROUD as it once was..

sigh..

voting/sharing...find that button yet?

LOL

Hi Ed. If only we held our flag in the esteem you hold old glory, our union flag is used to sell and title anything. Well done, a fine poem and sentiment. Voted up and all.

Graham.

"A power so silent as to never speak

is the most powerful voice of all" Well said. When I read poems like this it makes me proud to be an American and a hubber. The flag represents and means so much to some people. To others it is just a useless piece of fabric. They have no respect for. I think it is the symbol of honor, bravery, courage, and pride as you say. and Love. A love for our country. Though America has been going through some tough times (but what country hasnt?) and sometimes I get quite disappointed with the people and the government, and the cruel and idiotic things that happen in the world, I know things could be a lot worse, compared to shit that goes on in third world countries, and how people are treated just for being a woman, and people starving to death, i wonder why they cant be more like us?

You have inspired me along with another hubber to write this, http://hubpages.com/literature/Yes-Lets-Do-it...

Many lived and died for what that flag represents. I have a humble pride when I look at it. God has been so kind to this country. May we always show His mercy and grace to others.

Ed,

Oooh, you force me to take a deep breath whenever I read your words! Do you ever find yourself in one of those serene settings we've talked about before, you hear nothing but the wind, whistling in your ears, the sun in shining and sharing it's warmth, the world around you is green and still, and the only thing you truly notice is that flag, up high, waving in the wind... telling a story... a story of it's life? That.... that is what you've done for me! Lovely Ed, you are a beautiful man... take it, it's okay to be beautiful! :-)

Hugs,

Cat

Cat , And we find more peace ,more of a serenity, more understanding of life , in using the senses seldom used by others . Listen ......smell, breathing in the beauty of silent life . As mind twisting as life can sometimes be ? Yes ! I do ! Thank you Cat . A deep breath is a good thing !....hugs right back atcha !

Ed, funny, I think we take most of our senses for granted in our day to day happenings. When we just stop and focus in on them, in a moment of beauty, they seem so powerful don't they? You always wake my senses up!

Ed,

That is the place where I am most peaceful as well, nothing beats nature's beauty does it? And thank you... I've never had anyone make me a virtual flower before! I'd water it... but I'm afraid of electrocution :-)

Well, if you ever want to run away together and just appreciate the simple beauty that is nature, well, you know where to find me :-)

Cat , I think that if more people were to just get into a moment of peace , just once in awhile , it would save our culture from itself , know what I mean ? I've met soo many people who are soo wired all the time , I've even been in the natural world with those who just can't sit still long enough to just connect with themselves . ........Thanks for always sharing my friend !......Ed

Ed,

I couldn't agree with you more! I guess some would say I'm still a part of the "young crowd" but I might be an anti-conformist?! :-) I think we have so much technology and media in our faces and a struggling economy pulling people out of the home trying to find a way to make ends meet, not many are enjoying the simple pleasures of life. Gosh, I grew up with sticks and climbing tress and playing in the streets, picnics and bike rides and days by the creek. Do kids even know what growing up like that is anymore? The sadder truth of the matter is, I think adults are forgetting how to live like that.... and so their kids will never learn.

These moments in nature that we talk about, sometimes they bring a tear and not sadness, just letting go. I think we all need it. Your appreciation for this is one of the things I love about you!

Cat my dear , thank you for making me feel that what I write is important , You my girl are a wise woman ! If you played with sticks , clumb trees and lived outdoors ........you are an exception ........I kinda wish I knew you "out there ". Remember that old Crosby Stills Nash and Young song . "teach your children well", It sounds like you are way ahead of the field ! I'm proud of you , you seem so much like my beautiful daughter !......Hugs
